Is waiting for their return from deployment worse than when they deploy?

I am currently awaiting my sons return from overseas deployment - should be soon but don't know when and he's not allowed to say. When he was being deployed I knew exact dates and had text conversations with him until he left the US. While he's been gone have had emails etc. Now very little contact and don't really know what's going on or when he'll be back in the states. I am finding this to be the hardest part!!

Thanks Sally! He's finally back in the States and will be coming home to visit in a few more days! When my nephew was in the Marines his Mom knew exactly when he would be back and went to greet him. Don't understand what the difference is. Will be praying for your sons safe return and the safe return of all our soldiers!

I can definately relate; my son served two tours in Iraq and is now getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan. In answer to your question, I would probably have to say yes, I believe waiting for their return is worse than when they deploy because of the unknown return date AND the fewer-and-far-between contact with them before their return home. I know this won't make your wait any easier but at least you can know that some one else has gone through (and will again) what you're going through. If you ever need to talk, please send me a message.
