My son leaves for boot camp Aug. 4th. It is very bittersweet. I am so proud of him but am really going to miss him. The hardest part will be not getting to talk to him everyday. He is an amazing kid, never been in trouble, made good grades and active in sports. He has said since he was 4 that he was going into the Military. I am very happy for him but sad also. He calls me at least daily when I am work just to tell me to have a great day. I am really going to miss that. I am also going to miss having a house full of football boys here all the time. Any suggestions on how to get through it. I am also worried about his 13 yr old sister. We have plans to keep busy but I know it will sneak up on us when we aren't expecting it.

How is your son doing now? is he still in basic? has he found out his duty station yet? My oldest son just got out of basic and he is stationed in Fort Hood Texas. It was hard for us as well.We just told him to call and write whenever he can.Once he gets done with basic it will be much easier for him to make calls alot.My youngest 2 kids they text him and write him letters and talk to him whenever they can so it makes it much easier on them. Its nice to meet you.

I felt the same way when my son left for boot camp, he also stayed in school and made good grades, played sports and went to church. I have a strong bond with him and was going to miss the conversations we would have. I knew he had to go and that i would hear from him as soon as he was allowed to call or write. Don't worry he will be allowed to call, i think once or twice during processing and then once he gets settled in his company he will be allowed to write and maybe call every so often. One thing that helped me is knowing that boot camp doesn't last very long and if you have the chance go see him graduate boot camp. I didn't have the means to go but my mom paid my way and i took his sister with me and it's like nothing you've ever experienced, the pride you feel when you see those soldiers march and just the discipline and the respect that is so apparant in them, i thought i was going to bust with pride.

My son left for Ft. Knox Army BCT end of Aug. Be sure to write letters everyday and the time will fly by for you. Keep good spirits and my prayers will be with you and your family!

My son left for BMT (Air Force) last Tuesday. I know how hard it is to not be able to talk to them every day. I have been doing a lot of praying & writing letters (even though I don't have an address to mail them to yet) and just trying to keep a normal routine. The rest of my family seems to be doing ok except everyone jumps every time the phone rings hoping it's my son.
