Hi ladies. I was just reading up on everyones threds, as I have been too busy to get on here! Love my kids, but they keep me busy! Anyway, I was surprised to hear of people commenting on altering diets for their kids. I have taken the kids to 3 different specialists due to us moving and dr's moving and have never been told to watch for anything. I have been told to try the best to feed them on an empty stomach and that's it! Wow, I'll have to ask that next time. I just yelled at Jeff, my hubby who is a pharmacist and my go to on anything medical, and he said he has never told anyone that either or heard that. But of course he doesn't know everything! :)
I noticed many of you have small babies and are new to CH. I just want to tell you I can relate to how scarey and unexpected it is to hear the news. Just be glad that with medicine, your kids will be just fine! I was so nervous as a new mom reading ALL the vast info I could find on-line and everything seemed so scary. I remember thinking my daughter was going to be "slow and chubby!" I was afraid she would develop mentally! When she took a nap for too long I would worry her meds were off because she was sleeping too much! I paniced if her skin looked dry. That's all normal. I am now living with 2 kids with CH and most days I completely forget they have it until i have to fill out paper work for Kayden at school and they ask for medical conditions. Sometimes I don't even write it down because it doesn't affect her daily, she has no symptoms, she doesn't need or take the meds at school (OK, so I do list it just to be safe, but think I won't someday! Ha!). Anyway, there will come a point where you will relax and realize you have it lucky, it could be SOOO much worse! And my daughter Kayden is in the 100% for heighth and the 60% for weight at 6 years old. She is in first grade and excelling, she is quiet bright. No worries at all! And Kyle, is 20 months old and just as tall, and thinning down now that all he does is run! Also, very bright for his age, no develpmental delays at all! To be quiet honest, if I was just going on symptoms alone and not blood, I would have thought my middle son Jack would have had CH. He was the chubbiest baby! He slept for long stretches, except at night! He has incridibly dry skin. All the things I would have thought the other two would have and he does not have CH. The dr's told me that since he was tested at birth and didn't have it, he probably won't get it, until or unless he is an adult. (Jeff's momis Hypo onset as an adult, at 50 years old).
So, I am rambling, but just wanted to share, spread some advice, and let you know this site is great and keep asking questions! I am by no means an expert, but love to share on what we do and have been doing for the past 6 1/2 years!
