4 Year old son is going backwards after being completely potty trained! What do I do?

[deleted account] ( 4 moms have responded )

So my son just turned 4 on May 22. He was completely potty trained but now, all of a sudden, he is having a lot of accidents. He starts school in September so he needs to be trained completely. Eeeek I don't know what to do!!!

It may be that something is worrying him and when he's figured it out he'll be fine again. He is worried about starting school? Anything changed in his life? Sometimes these things happen for a bit and he'll right himself again - just don't get cross with him about it (hard I know!!) and try to remind him about going to the toilet (in a gentle way) and hopefully he'll be back to normal in no time.

Be light about it.

Do not panic.

If he was completely trained for a few months he will go back and if he doesn't he is not emotionally ready.

Your pushing and your stressing out over his struggle is going to delay him longer. Encourage and laugh. It is summer. Put him in underwear and just wash over and over. He won't like it to be wet or dirty, and you won't like changing and cleaning, but he won't stay that way long.

I also like the ping pong idea. that is fun!

Hello Nicole why not try getting a ping pong ball and drawing a smiley face on it , put it in the toilet and get him to aim at the pingpong ball , you might have to get daddy to do it first to show him, it worked wonders for my sisters 3 boys.. hope it helps. brenda xx
