My 5 year old boy is sleepwalking almost every night. He gets up, his eyes are wide open, and he panics. He has even tried to get out the door at night. I don't know what to do for him and it takes me forever to calm him down. He's not having "nightmares", just getting up confused and never remembers the next day. Any advice? (P.S. I have 5 kids, and he is the 4th so I do have 3 older children, but they have never done this, so I really need some good advice on this one! )

My 4 year old daughter sleep walks sometimes..usually she ends up in our room! I shut her bedroom door sometimes and this seems to help. Usually if its shut I will find her sitting in the middle of her room crying coz she doesn't know where she is. I take her to the toilet and then pop her back in bed. One time she was crying and wondering around..I didn't realise she was asleep..I asked her what was wrong and she pointed at the TV and said I can't sit on that!! Lucky she hadn't tried!

My son has done it a few times and once he pee'd over a table lamp and it exploded!! The older he gets the less it seems to affect him. Just keep doing what your doing make sure he cant get out of the house make sure windows are locked too my brother once tried to climb out of a window while sleepwalking.

I agree with taking him to the doctor. My daughter sleepwalked quite a bit at that age and still does sometimes and she is 10 now. I started with making sure all the doors to the outside were locked, then slept with my door open so I could hear her better if she got up.

Good Luck with your 5 year old's sleep walking!

Well, Deanna I have to say I don't know, but I would certainly see a doctor right away about your 5 year old's sleep walking! I would express my concerns there first! I think this is important to rule out any medical conditions that may be causing this! Start there! Good luck!
