Anyone heard/read the book The Kazdin Method for Parenting the Defiant Child: With No Pills, No Therapy, No Contest of Wills

I thought my "defiant" child was just acting like that to me at home, but she started kindergarten this past Sept and on parent teacher day I was informed she is also acting like this in class. One example was the teacher told her not to run her hand down the wall in the hall way and my daughter took her pointer finger and held it as close to the wall as possible without touching it and walked down the hall that way. I was looking into some parenting books and the Kazdin book got good reviews. I was wondering if anyone has read it and if it is working for you?

I wiil definitely look that book up. Having issues with my 5 yr old son who is in kindergarten. He is truly strong minded and so bright!!! At 5 though, sometimes that can be an issue!!!!! Its his way or no way!!! UGH!!!!!!

I'm not sure if I would consider her defiant more like strong willed. I am the Mom of 2 boys 8 and almost 4 and I would recommend the book "Raising Your Spirited Child" Too often teachers will label a child for doing things that are normal for that age group. I found that suggesting alternatives and pointing out when she is well behaved works a lot better. You don't want to kill her spirit yet you still get her to do what she needs to. I "redirect" my 4 yr old in the right direction often! Good Luck!

I haven't heard of that book, but what you describe sound just like something my son would do! I wouldn't call it defiant, so much as testing their limits. Defiant seems like such a harsh word for a 5 year old.

I haven't but it sounds good so I am going to look into it...I sure could benefit from good advice for my 6 y.o. son.
