My daughter is 10 years old and she is our oldest. I'm not sure if it is a 10 year old thing or something to be more concerned about. She has become very picky about eating, specifically breakfast. She just doesn't want to eat breakfast in the morning anymore. I have asked her what kind of stuff she wants for breakfast, but she never really eats Monday-Friday. She always eats good for breakfast on the weekend though. She is not a morning person, so i'm not sure if she just doesn't feel hungry in the morning, but she already gets up very early (5:30am) becuase my husband & I start work so early and she has to go to before care, so i don't want to have her get up any earlier, or by the time school starts she is goign to be exhausted. They sell breakfast at school, but it is not what i would like her eating every day, nevermind the financial impact of that. Lunch she eats okay. I pack a lunch for her and she seems to eat most of it most days. (i do the same thing, let her have input on what her lunch consists of so it's stuff she likes to eat). Dinner, she has just gotten picky. Things she likes she says she doesn't really care for. When i ask her what kind of things she would like to have for dinner, i get "Mac & Cheese with cut up hot dogs".
With all the things young girls have to deal with now, i don't want to encourage NOT eating breakfast; or any meal for that matter! It's not healthy and i think it's a bad habit to start at this point. Is sending her to school with a breakfast bar really sufficiant breakfast for a 10 year old? There is no hot water availble to her that so she can make oatmeal (another one of her favorites). We always eat dinner as a family every night, well balanced meals and i try to cook everyones favorite meal at least once a week, but i'm also not running a restaurant. I think there is somethign to be said for eating what's being cooked or you don't eat. (that's the way i grew up). But that is why i allow input when i go grocery shopping. Is this just a "phase"? How do i handle it?
