At what age do kids start losing their teeth?

My daughter lost her first teeth when she was 5, and a friend of mine didn't start losing teeth until she was in the third grade. Take your son to the dentist if you're worried about it, but odds are it's perfectly normal. Food will make teeth loose when they're ready to come out.

My 9 year old came to me the other day with an issue about his molar that was crowned when he was 6. You can clearly see a new (adult) tooth coming through, but I am not sure if its normal for the crown to fall off of the "baby" tooth 1st. The crown is barely hanging on, but the tooth itself is not loose yet. Is this something I should be concerned about?

My youngest turned 6 on July 15 and he has yet to get any loose teeth my older two lost their first tooth in kindergarden and he is fixing to be in 1st grade and still nothing i am starting to worry.

My oldest was 6 when she lost her first tooth. My son lost his first one on his 5th birthday with the second one soon following. My youngest is 5 now and there are no signs of wiggly teeth yet.

I found out that the age for losing baby teeth is pretty wide. I was getting worried because my son was 6 before he started loding teeth and then it was an outbreak. For a while, he had NO front teeth whatsoever, and it took forever for them to grow in. he got his bottom two first and he looked like an upside down Bugs Bunny. But now they are all coming in. I never pulled any of his teeth, BUT, he did lose one in his sleep and we never found it. We don't think he swallowed it but we had to make a fake tooth for the tooth fairy.

My son's 5 tomorrow(15th July) and last wk we noticed he has 2 front bottom wobbly teeth, so i put a post up too!!
But I'm sure now that all kids do things at different times some early and some a lot later, don't worry it's the right time for ur son let nature take it's course :-)

Joan it doesn't matter if the new tooth has started to push through with the other tooth still there it is only a problem if the baby tooth isn't loose and doesn't get loose before the other tooth has stopped growing.

My 5 year old son Loosen his teeth 2 weeks ago and I ask my husband about it if we should pull it off he said its gonna pull off by itself but then I checked my sons tooth yesterday the new tooth starting to came out from the back and I regret Why I hesitated to pull it off. so I pull it off last night and my son was so brave didnt even cry. I just made him eat some ice cream after gargling some water so that the gum will stop bleeding. and he kept his tooth so the toothfairy will give him some present..He was so happy finding out some money under his pillow this morning.

My daughter lost her first tooth in July and she is 6. Then she lost 2 more right after that. I took her to her dental appt and the dentist informed me she had 5 more baby teeth that still need to come out. So don't be surprised if he comes at you with it in his hands.

My daughter lost her first one on her 6th birthday. It was loose for a few months before that. She just lost her second one 2 days ago. She is now 6 yrs 2 months old. In her Kindergarten class last year, they had a tooth chart for those that lost their teeth and several kids were on that. Your son is at just the right age for it! As far as pulling it out, I just let them fall out by themselves.

Usually even if all the teeth are still there when the big ones start coming through the big ones put force on the baby ones to come out. Dentists usually don't like to pull the baby ones even if this is happening. They normally wont do anything unless the baby teeth don't start to come out after the big ones are well and truly fully grown and have stabalised in position.

5-6 is the normal age range to start losing teeth although I have known some to lose them at 4 or 7. My Aunt was a dental assistant so she rambles it off to me all the time.

My son was 5 when he lost his first teeth. I was freaking out and called one of my best friends because he is a dentist and he said it was normal as long as it isnt a molar. :)

hi my daughter got her first wobbly tooth when she was 5 as well and was really proud because 'shes a big girl now' bless i didnt pull it i just let her wobble it an it fell out while she was eating an apple. she's lost five teeth now and we havent had to pull any just leave it and let it come out when its ready

My dentist told me to expect it to happen between 5 and 7 years of age. My oldest lost her first tooth close to 7 years old. My others haven't reached that point yet. I wouldn't pull it, it'll happen on it's own. If it's painful check with a dentist. Maybe have him wiggle it a few times daily to help it along if it's only mildly bothersome. Good luck.

I think 5 is about right as my son lost his first teeth when he was 5. My daughter who was 6 last month has`nt lost any yet, i don`t think it makes a difference how early they got their first teeth. Both my son and daughter got their first teeth at 13 weeks, they will come out when there ready.

Congratulations to your son. My son is also 5 and just lost his first tooth this week. I had to look online to make sure it was normal but it is. I read that most kids by age 5 to 6 have a loose tooth or have started loosing teeth. I wouldn't suggest pulling it. We let him eat apples until it came out naturally.

the crown is attached to the original tooth so when the tooth comes out it will too. a crown is placed when the tooth is damaged more than a regular filling can repair.

My three kids were all different. One didn't loose her first tooth until she was 7 1/2, another has lost 8 and she's only 6 1/2 (lost her first when she was five.) I think there is no need for concern.

Five is the right age for losing teeth. I've been told it goes by how quickly they gained their baby teeth, ie, the longer it took them to get their teeth the longer it will take for them to fall out. My older son got all his teeth quite quickly (he had 12 teeth at 1 year old) & so by 6 he lost 7 teeth. But most of his friends at 6 and 1/2 are only just now losing theirs. Also, don't wiggle or pull the tooth yourself, they come out on their own & it can damage the roots for the permanent tooth underneath. All my son's teeth popped out on their own when they were ready. Have some paracetomol and bonjela gel, because sometimes they can really hurt when their eating (just like when they were teething the first time).

all kids loose there teeth at differnt ages my daugther is 6 she has no wiggle teeth and has lost one yet some of her friends have she asked me way i had told her everyone teeth are differnt that they will when they are ready

It all depends when your child got teeth in the 1st place. My son was 4 mths with his 1st set of teeth and started losing teeth at 4 yrs old. But every child is different.

My DD got teeth later on...and going to be 5 in Oct and has no loose teeth.



Do not pull it out....it will come out when it's ready to.

I would have to say some start early as 5 and can go a late as 7. just depends on when there teeth want to start getting loose !! you will know when it needs to be pulled . when it becomes loose at first dont pull it it needs a little time to loosen up a bit more .

Just to add that i think when they begin to loose the teeth can depend how early they grew their teeth as babies. But the toothpaste that is recommended for adult and baby teeth is age 6, so is prob average age

Also, when my daughter was last at the dentist he said the back molars dont fall out, another tooth grows along side it to make a bigger molar tooth which i thought was v.clever lol

He is fine. They start about age 5. Don't pull it. Let the tooth come out on it's own. No fear. This is very common age for a tooth to be loose. By the end of pre-k, my daughter lost 3 teeth. She is now in 2nd grade and she has most of her adult teeth.

wait till the tooth falls out on its own as if u pull it out when its not ready the new tooth might grow wrong, like my son's tooth. he lost his 2 front bottom teeth age 5 in a half but he pulled his sencond tooth out when it wasn't quite ready and his new tooth has grown crooked, the dentist said not to worry at his age at the moment as when he's 6 in a half he will loose his front top teeth and grow extra teeth and the back. my son's front top 2 teeth are not loose yet and he's 6 in a half years old. my son's next trip to the dentist will be in november. hope that helps from Mandy

5 sounds about right to me.. My son lost his first tooth about 3 weeks ago :/ a week before he turned 6!! he already had another one. He tells me that it means he's growing up. Its the cutest thing ever! My son let the tooth fall out on his own.. he tugged on it a few times but said it hurt, then one morning it was gone!

my son (6.5yrs) who just lost his 1st bottom tooth a few days ago & it's just freaky how far advanced the adult tooth was behind it. if u are concerned, go to your dentist. don't pull it & just let nature take its course...now tooth fairy money is my next issue LOL

Every child is different. My oldest had loose tooth when she was four. Lost her first one right after she turned five and the rest just started dropping like flies soon then after. However my second daughter, didn't start loosing her teeth until she was 6. The dentist and dr told me 5-6 is avg age but of course if you have concern I encourage you to speak with your child's dr or dentist.

My oldest lost her first tooth about 3 months ago and her second a week later. The bottom front are the first to go. She's 6 and her new teeth are almost done growing already. She has a top front tooth that is loose now.

Nope thats normal. My youngest is 5 and she just lost her first baby tooth on Monday!! The other 3 were all around 5 almost 6 when they started to lose teeth, so dont worry.

As far as I know crowns are the same as plain ol teeth. They will fall out with the tooth when the time comes.

it's normal. some people think 5 is too early. i think it depends on when their teeth came in. my son had his first tooth at 4 months and at 5 had already lost 2 teeth. He's 7 now and has his 8 front adult teeth

My daughter just lost her first tooth (front bottom) at 6 1/2 and none of her other teeth are even slightly wiggly! I have a friend who's nephew lost his first tooth when he was 9, so I think they're all different...

Every kid is different. My oldest was almost 7 before she started loosing teeth, but my youngest started loosing them at 5. It also took a long time for her teeth to grow in once the baby ones fell out she looked like a jack'o'lantern for a long time. Just encourage him to keep wiggling it and it will come out on its own.

He is just the right age to start loosing baby teeth. Most kids start between the ages of 5 and 6. It won't reset itself it's just ready to come out. It may not be ready to be pulled out either I would just have him wiggle it and usually when they start bleeding they are pretty easy to pop out.

Hi Michelle, I also have a 5year, and she has a wiggly bottom tooth too. (And I thought the top ones came out first). I was looking for a post as she has had it for a few weeks now, I look in her mouth last night, and her adult teeth are growing behind the baby teeth. So now I not sure if you she needs her front teeth extracted as the baby teeth won't be pushing them out. Both bottom adult teeth are through the gum. so, she has 4 bottom front teeth.
