So, I have a situation on my hands, what do you do when you need back up daycare for school closures? Where do you locate a babysitter? I don't know anyone in the area (don't have time to get to know anyone either), and I don't have family to help me out when school is closed. I know other's are in this situation too, so what do you do? Where can I find needed info on this? Any suggestions would be great.

Thank you for all of your advice. He currently is enrolled in a before & after school program, however they are closed when the school is closed. So unfortunately that doesn't work for me. But I will definitely check into the local community college for that graduate list, I would've never thought about looking there! Thank you again for all of your advice everyone! :) This has been very helpful for me.

Check the Park District in your area also! We have a Before and Afterschool Program usually in the schools that are open on days off and the Winter and Spring Breaks!

Our area also has a YMCA program for kids 6-12. Our cost is $20/day for residents, $25/day for non-residents. They have tons of activities for the kids to participate in, if they want.

Does the school provide after school care? If they do, they normally would provide day care for school closures.

I usually just take a snow day also but I am lucky enough to work for a great company that lets me do this. But to answer you question; have you tried looking in your community education classes? Our book has a babysitting course that kids can take and get certified as a babysitter and then parents can get a copy of the graduation list (list of the kids that have completed the course) and you can call them and set up a time to meet. It worked out great for me. I found 2 babysitters that way and you know that they have first aid training and kitchen safety training.

The YMCA near us offers this service. You could check there.

We usually use a local drop in daycare center. One way to find a babysitter in your area, if you don't know any is to call a local church, or ask around at yours, if you belong to one. I've never had to do this for my kids, but I did get several babysitting jobs as a teenage this way.
