I would like to know the average bed time moms are putting their 9 year old's to bed. I have a 5 and 9 year old who share a room so I put them both to bed around 8:30. I would like to give my 9 year old (10 in July) a later bed time but what would the best bedtime be for a 9 year old?

Thanks for your help :)

I have a 12 year old, & his bedtime is strictly at 9:oopm. I think it helps him, because as he gets older, his time at school gets more demanding, so he needs more sleep to re-charge! He actually doesn't have a problem with his bedtime, & sometimes he even chooses to go to bed at 8:30, if he's feeling really tired!

I have a 4 and an 8 yr old who share a room. I actually put my 4 year old to bed at 7:30 and let the 8 year old stay up an extra 1/2 hour, since she is older. But it is a privilege that is taken away when she can't behave herself.

My 4 children are ages 9,8,6 and 2. My 2 yr old doesnt go to bed until 9:30 because if I put him to bed any sooner he is up by 4:30am. As for my other 3 their bedtimes are 8,8:30 and 9. My 6 and 9 yr old share a room so I like my 6 yr old to be sleeping before my 9 yr old gets there.

I have a 9yr old and 11yr old and both go to bed at 8pm and get up at 6am for school. We let them stay up late on fri and sat. Some times it is 9pm sometimes 10pm it depends on how they act...cranky sooner happy later.

I agree with Crystal, every kid has different needs and they do go through phases when they might need more sleep - or less. My boys are almost 7 and 9 and both have to start getting ready for bed around 7pm. I read to my 7 year old and my 9 year old is allowed to read by himself as long as he wishes (they have separate rooms though). If I notice they are having a hard time getting up, I make sure lights are out earlier the next few nights. But don't see a reason to officially make one bedtime later than the other or make it later to begin with.

My 9 year old daughter goes to bed at 7 on weekdays. She gets up at around 6:30 in the morning and if she is in bed any later then 7 she is super tired and grumpy in the morning. Yet my 5 yeapr old stepson can go to bed later then her and be up just fine in the morning. I think the proper bed time depends on the child and can differ depending on what their body needs.

I think 8:30 is a perfect time for them. They need good sleep at that age. My kids go to bed @8:30 but sometimes they don't fall asleep right away. If they go to bed too late then they don't want to get up in the morning for school. I have 5 girls ages 11 mo.-10 yrs and my 7,8 and 10 yr. old go to bed @ 8:30 on school nights and Fri. and Sat. they can go as late as they want because there's no school the next day. If you would like to give your 10 yr old a later bed time...try 9:00 and see how that works for you.

My kids are 6, 8, and 10. They all have a bedtime of 7:30pm. That is just what time they have to start their nightly rituals before bed. This is their bathroom time, time for getting their school clothes out for the next day, and wind down time. I would like them to be asleep by at least 9pm but, that never seems to happen. I wish they would be able to get differing bedtimes but, they don't abide by the one they have now. I have told them that if they start going to bed on time then their bedtimes will change. During the summer they are with their grandparents in a different state and I know they let them stay up as late as they want. Which bothers me but, what can you do, it's grandma/grandpas house their rules. My 10yr old is the hardest one to get out of bed in the mornings. I think bedtimes vary with each kid. The ones who are happy and glad to wake up should be allowed to stay up a little later than the ones who are grouchy and difficult to wake. That's just my opinion though. I would just make sure your child is getting enough rest to do well in school and have the energy they need to make it through their day then you can alter their bedtime if you want.

My daughter will be 9 on April 30th and her bedtime is 9pm right now. Depends on when they need to wake up. Kids that age are generally suppose to get about 10 hrs. of sleep a night.

My 9 year old girl is starting to give me trouble too. I also have a 6 year old. I got them used to going to bed at 8:30 the latest. And now I find myself between a rock and hard place as well.
I dowloaded a video from youtube that explains why sleep is important. She still insists in that, she is older now and she feels is not fair that she has to go to bed so early. But thank God she still not into the rebellious stage yet. I convinced her. So what i try to do also is get her very tired. she sill fights a little bit but then falls asleep 5 minutes later. My questions is what about next year? I have no clue :) I'm with you. If you find helpfull suggestions let me know

I have a son who will be 8 in August and he goes to bed at 9pm. He goes right to sleep and gets up at 8am which gives him 11 hours of sleep. He seems refreshed every morning. Good luck with whatever time you choose.

I have five boys. The 3 oldest are all in the lower level of the house, with 2 of them sharing a room. Ages 10, 8, and 6-they keep each other up. We try to stagger when they go to bed, so the 1st one to bed actually gets a chance to fall asleep before the next one comes down. My 10yr olds bedtime is actually 8:30, and it will get later for all of them after school is out. I don't think we will plan on changing it until he is 12. He actually had a form sent home from school, the other day because they were having some testing, and it was asking us to commit to make sure he went to bed by 9pm for that week. I for one think 8:30 is a good bedtime for that age. Hope this helped.

A good bedtime for a 9 year old is 9:00 p.m. if they are exspected to be awake at 6:30 a.m. for school; They need 8 to 10 hours of continous sleep for optimal rejuvenation while they rest.

as a mom and a teacher. I prefer the 8:30 to 9:00 bed time for all school age children up to high school age.The more sleep they get the happier healthier they are. they also learn better on more sleep. what I do with my children is who are 7 and 4 is 8: 30 Monday thru Friday and then on Sat they get to stay up till 10. good luck with what ever you decide should be the bedtime for your 9 year old.

making sure she is still getting about 10 hrs of sleep at night...so if she has to get up at around 730 for school. ..u could maybe let her stay up til 930 but maybe back off gradually and say 9 to start with as bedtime for your 9 year old.

Hi Ashley , I have 2 boys who also share a room and they've had the same bed time (8:30) until this past Feb when the oldest turn 13 and was officially a teenager, he now goes to bed at 9:30 ,and there really is no best time , it has to be according to your son and how many hours a sleep he needs , some kids need more that others or they'll be cranky all day, so try different times and see what works best for your son and good luck picking a bedtime for your 9 year old.

Bedtime for my 9 year old is 8pm. Maybe you could let your 9 year old go to bed a half hour later. Not sure if this helps.

I have a 7 and 9 soon to be 10 year old who share a room right now both go to bed at 8pm but they start school earlier than most at 7:45 am. I will probably start letting the older go to bed later after he turns 10. But not too late as he is tired in the am and I have to wake him. I think 9 pm is a late enough bedtime for a 9 year old but will probably start with 8:30pm.

To get the best out of school, a schoolchild (including teenagers) usually needs to sleep about 10 hours every night. When deciding on a bedtime for a 9 year old, bear in mind what time your child has to get up and how long it takes him to get ready for school.

My 9 year old daughters bedtime is 10 and she is up at 7 for school and she is fine, but every kid is different. Although, I think 8:30 is too early a bedtime for a 9 year old, my 2 year old goes to bed at that time. Good luck
