do you send your 5 year old to school when she just has a sore throat and no other symptoms?

I think it would depend on the child. I know for me, ANY time I had a sore throat, I ended up with a pretty serious illness (strep, bronchitis, or tonsillitis). But all I had for the first day was a sore throat. In my case, yes. Any time I had a sore throat, I stayed home and we tried to nip it in the bud as much as possible.
For a kid who gets a sore throat with every cold or whatever, no. I would probably send them out.

Yes. As with the others who have responded, unless my child has a fever..or more severe symptoms of not feeling well...my son goes to school. If he was complaining of his throat hurting, I would give him tylenol or other cold meds to help soothe it.

I do the same as Heather. My son stays home if he has a fever.

I usually only keep my boys home if they have fevers. If I kept them home for runny noses/ sore throats, they'd be home most of the year due to allergies!
