My little sister sucked her thumb and my little brother sucked his fingers so my mom put rubbing alcohol on his fingers and he stop because it tasted horrible. That might work.

Hi Kim. Thank you for your message. I suggest that you talk to your son passionately and with care. Don't try to make him feel guilty because he's thumbsucking. He might develop lack of confidence because of that. Instead remind him with a touch of joke. That way, he won't feel that you're getting frustrated or upset of he's doing. You're right though, that time will come, he'll realize forhimself that fingersucking is ugly to look at. God bless you and your family.

Hi, Lindsay! Thank you for your nice message. I don't think she has the desire to stop for now. Weve tried to talk to her out of it, but I guess she is just too young to understand. However, we never miss a single day reminding her of the outcome if she will not stop thumbsucking. She's a bright girl, I know time will come and she will stop. More power to you and God bless you and your family!

My daughter is also 4 and she stopped earlier this year with help. Does your daughter desire to quit? After I had talked with my daughter about how if she continued to suck her fingers it would really hurt her teeth, she wanted to quit. We purchased Mavala Stop from amazon.com. It's a nail polish for nial biters and finger suckers. We applied it once a day and it made her nails very bitter to the taste. Madeline only tried to suck her fingers once after we began applying. We had great results and she's now gone about 6 months without sucking her fingers. I would highly recommend it! Good luck!

Hi Aurelina,
My 6 year old still sucks his finger.
I have tried all methods to get him to stop but I've realised that by making a big deal of it, I make him feel asif he's doing something wrong and he becomes very self conscious. I still speak to him about it and I try to very gently discourage him from sucking his thumb but I believe that he'll stop when he's ready..
