Practice, Practice, Practice. Both my older boys wrote their name before they went into Kindergarten. I first helped them by holding their hands then let them try! Always praise them for a good try. Do it everyday.

You can try to make it fun for him to get used to writing letters of his name. Try wrting on bathroom tiles when he's taking a bath using bubbles, or play with chalk on pavements, using stick on sand when you go to the beach. Then you can let him use color pencils on paper to write. That way it will be fun instead of feeling forced.

Dry erase boards work great at practicing letters. They have workbooks now that teach kids how to write the letters, then they wipe them off. There is a website as well that you can print out dot to dot of their names.

Does he like to draw? Maybe you can interest him in dot-to-dots to help him hold the pencil or pen and then work up to practicing letters. My daughter didn't want to write her name until she got better at coloring and dot-to-dots.

Some suggestions that were made to me when i started teaching my son was use salt in a box and have them write the letters.
