I have an 8 1/2 yr old and a 16mo old. My oldest goes to bed about 8-8:30. My youngest is between 7-7:30. there are days that both are later though. Depends on what is all going on. During the summer we will let them stay up about 1/2hr to 1hr longer. My oldest is always getting up and down with every excuse in the book so that is why she is in bed at her time. It only gets worse as they get older. Good luck to all the new parents out there.

My sons are 3 and 7 and share a room. They both are in bed between 8 and 8:30. My husband does not get home until a little after six, so by the time we eat and take baths it is usually 8. Now that baseball is in full swing, probably more like 8:30. They both get up around 7:00 to get my older son off to school. My kids require a lot of sleep. my 3 year old still naps 2 hours a day. On weekends I usually let them stay up until 9:30, so my sons can watch Star Wars

My children are grown and married with children. I love the grandbabies and have them often. They are 10,9,7 and 4 months.oops! vasectomy didn't work, as you can see 4 month old 7 years later. The family loves Dylan so very much. He is an angel, The bed thing with them was all in one bed it use to drive me crazy. The children would come here to spend the night and want sleep with us, but I never allowed it. They understood it and now they are older, each have their own rooms and they sleep in it. Goes to show you what you choose to do in your home is your home.. The kids a A students and really good kids. This time Nana doesn't know best.

We recently changed bedtime (from chaos/anything goes to a schedual/chart) and things have been going alot smoother. My 3yo goes down at 8pm, my almost 7yo goes down at 9, and my 8yo goes down at 9:30. Now, keep in mind we are homeschoolers, so no early mornings to get up for - we all wake up when our bodies tell us to and start our 'day' then - I'm sure if we had to be at school/ready for the bus at 8am or whatever, things would be a tad different.

Hi Alison! I have four kids - my twins who are 9 yrs go to bed at 7.30 pm, my 6 yr old at 7pm and my 2 yr old at 6.45 pm. They have all been very good sleepers so we count ourselves very lucky and my hubby and I enjoy our couple time while they're all tucked up in bed!

I have 3 kids, ages 3, 8, and 10. The 3 year old and 8 year old both go to bed at 7:30, and my 10 year old goes to bed at 8:30. The lights go out at this time. They are usually in bed reading or something for 1/2 an hour before. It gives them time to settle down.

My children are 12 and 5 (he wil be 6 on May 21st). They both get sent to bed at 8:00. My little one needs to go to sleep at that time because he is so little. He usually falls right to sleep. My older son needs to go to bed that early because it takes him time to settle down to fall asleep. He goes up to bed at 8:00 with the lights out, no t.v, no gameboy, nothing. He usually does not fall asleep until around 9:00. Every child is different. You should ask your pediatrician what time he or she thinks is a good time to send your child to bed. Different age children require different amounts of sleep time. Children do require a lot of sleep though. I believe my pediatrician suggested about 10 to 12 hours for my 5 year old.

Quoting Jessica:

Wow! all these times are earlier than mine, my kids 7 & 10 have been going to bed at 9pm since each of them has started school because that's the time my parent's sent us to bed. Weekends are as late as they want and I've never had a problem with this. As they get older their time will get a little later as mine did when I got older by high school it was whatever because I worked too. Everyone is different, if you know how many hours your child needs to sleep then just go from their, I'm a night owl! my kids are like me on the weekends but they are real good sleepers weekdays :)Good Luck!

Wow is right... I was starting to think I was the only one... my son is 6 & goes to bed @ 930 on school nights & sometimes that takes until 10pm to actually be in bed & going to sleep... on weekends he stays up pretty much as late as he wants unless there's something going on early the next morning.  He gets up @ 0630 during week for school & generally doesn't have any problem.  I can't imagine trying to get him to be by 7 or 8pm.  One of our main reasons for the time is that my husband doesn't get home from work until 630pm & sometimes almost 7pm so, if i were to put our son down for bed by then, he would never get to see him, nor would we ever had dinner all together, etc., etc., etc.  Our son has always been a night owl... right along with us & yes he's an only child... :-)

As a mom with a 5th grader and a 2nd grader, I don't know how people get their kids to bed by 7:30 or 8:00! We usually have an after-school activity of some kind, homework, supper, bath and bed. We shoot for lights-out at 9:15, but we usually don't make it. It's more like 9:30.
