How to potty train my four year old at nights?

My son is 4yrs old and pretty much can use the bathroom on his own during the day but at nights I am forced to use the training pampers still because he will not get up and go to the bathroom at nights. I have tried to stop using the pampers at night and letting him sleep in his underwear thinking laying in a wet bed would deter him but he will continue to sleep through the night wet. I myself know I could be getting up in the night to make him go but can someone please tell me of any more tips. He really needs to get out of the pamper stage completely.

My daughter is turning 6 is 3 weeks and she still wets the bed every night. We don't let her drink before bed, and she is of course potty trained and has been since she was 2. The pediatrician says it's completely normal. He says that kids who play really hard during the day, crash when they go to sleep at night, and basically can't wake up to go to the bathroom. He assures me there's nothing wrong with her and she will eventually stop, but until then we use the goodnights sleep pants, and she knows it's not a diaper. I would quit using diapers for sure, but you do want to put some form of sleep pants on him, and don't worry it's completely normal, it just sucks for us :)

I would just keep him in training pants at night.  I think if he feels like you are in a hurry to get him out of the training pants it would just delay it longer, it's okay.  You may be surprised the closer he gets to age 5 he may be willing to wear underwear and do very well.  Just wait a little longer and try the underwear again, just remind him at that time he can't wet the bed or he'll have to wear training pants again, that he's got to keep his bed dry.  Don't let him have anything to drink an hour or 2 before bed time, that might help.  I know that's hard but children are not going to die of thirst, that's what I keep telling my children, he will be fine.  Take him to the potty first thing in the morning.  Hope this helps!!

My suggestion is to stop putting on diapers at night and put a plastic sheetcover on the matress. I have two kids and with both of them it worked to wake them up about an hour or two after they were asleep and take them to the bathroom. This worked very well for both of my boys. Depending on how close your bedrooms are, if you can here him being restless in his bed at all that may also be a good time to take him. Doing this doesn't seem to disturb their sleep to much and once they get used to the routine they hardly wake up but they go right away!

It's completely normal for kids to have trouble night training. Boys especially. There can be medical reasons, so it might be worth chatting to your doctor about it, but don't stress too much if your son doesn't get it just yet. You could get Conni Pads (not sure if they have the same name, I'm in Australia) that are supposed to be good. Apparently they absorb the moisture so you wouldn't have to worry so much about the mattress. I'd say if he sleeps through despite the bed being wet then he's not ready to be out of night nappies just yet though. Good luck.
