as soon as you can.my son wasn't told he had austim until the third grade which was last year and it has been very hard.because we are still learning.so if you find out before school time it would be best.

Get the recommendation from the pediatrician. Our had our son referred to Good Shepherd in Allentown, Pa. She is a developmental pediatrician. We learned at 1 1/2 our son was very delayed. He never spoke complete sentences till he was 3. He would only say one or two words together. We then got speech therapists, OT, PT, and a behavioral specialist, after he was diagnosed shortly after with PDD-NOS, autism. He also has diabetes incipidis, so we have a real challenge on our hands right now. He is 5 and going into kindergarten, REAL kindergarten, and I am scared to death for him! I know I have to let him grow up sometime, but I fear he will get outraged and destroy the classroom! Never give up the fight for the developmental pediatrician, or a psychiatrist for evaluation!!!
