Write it for him and have him trace it over and over again. Write neatly. My kids would get F's in penmanship if they wrote like me.

I don't know where you live or how old you are, but US schools are a lot different than when I was a kid. Kindergarteners are expected to know and write the alphabet and numbers before school starts - not read or do math, but just know what they are. Then they're expected to pick up reading within the first few months. I was fortunate that my kids did it, but I hate the one-size-fits-all approach to school. If you're really worried, try Hooked on Phonics. I used it for my youngest and he did great!
