Does anyone have any ideas how to get the kids to start their homework when they get home and stick to it? My kids start and are running around. I have to get them focused again to get the work finished.

Being in school and staying focused all day is a lot of work for them, I have found that giving them 10-15 mins when the get home to unwind helps. Set a timer and when it goes off it's time to hit the books.

I am all for the sit down and do it. I'm not saying that it's not a struggle on some days, but you just stick with it's the rule and that's that. We have tried everything....snack and then homework, after dinner, before bedtime. You name it and every time it went back to doing it right after school. It was far less crying and whining about it. They will learn that if they just do it and get it done they will have the rest of the evening to play and relax.

What we do is they get to have snack first when they get home, just so they don't come from school and do more school work, then I make them do it and they are not allowed any game boys or computer during the week so they won't rush to do their homework and not try their hardest. Maybe there could be a reward after it is completed to your satisfaction. ex. tv show they like, or help you with supper, or maybe a computer game. Hope that helps you.
