My daughter is 7 and she goes to bed at 8:30 Sunday-Thurs and on Fri and Sat she stays up until 9:00. We recently changed it because she wasn't very tired at 8 when we were putting her to bed.

This is a tough one. I have a 5 years old and recently we had tried 9:30 - 9:45 at night and she gets up aroun 7:15 - 7:30. This might sounds bad but we have a long commute so she sometimes catch her cat nap in the car on the way to school and on the way home at now. Also, her school still offer naps during the day so for now she is still good. When Sept comes there will be no naps and we need to leave the house by 7:15. Wish me luck.

To bed at 8pm and up at 6:30am. I heard that children need around 10 hours of rest a day and my son stopped taking naps when he was 3 so the early bedtime works well for him. He usually falls asleep on his own playing in his room by 7:45pm anyway.

8-year-old son: in bed around 8 for reading time, lights usually out by 9.
13-year-old daughter: in bed (in theory) by 9; reading time, I take her cell phone and ipod; lights are supposed to be out around 9:30 because she really needs a lot of sleep. At 9:29 will announce she is hungry. Gets small snack. I come back and turn out light at 9:45. I hear her get up at 10 and go into bathroom...she's in there with a book. Knock on door, ask her to get back in bed. Take book, hide in hallway under laundry. Huffy, annoyed noises come from her room until about 1030 when she finally falls asleep accidentally.

I have a 4 1/2 year old son and a 6 1/2 year old daughter. Both go to bed in their own rooms on weeknights between 9:00-9:30pm and they are up in the morning at 7:00am. I do allow then to watch TV in their rooms once they are in bed. My 6 1/2 year old most times falls asleep within minutes but my 4 1/2 year old stays up watching TV most of the time. For the most part they get up fine in the morning, occassionally they are cranky but that goes with anyone...even adults. On the weekends they stay up with us until we go to bed or until they fall asleep in their own and they sleep until about 9am or sometimes later.

We start bed-time around 7-7:30; shower, teeth, story and all of them are in bed around 8pm. The lights are out for the 5 & 8 yr old, the 9 yr old may read for an extra 15 min. then its lights out and the 11 yr old is right behind her. It is pretty early, but we have a busy family, and I need the break and they do better with more sleep. The flip side is that they are all up around 6:30-7 am! A big sleep-in is around 8pm! At least it is teaching them good habits and no one is cranky in the morning!

Hi, I have a 9, 7, & 6 year old, and they go to bed at 7:30 during the week b/c they get up at 6:15. I am thinking about letting my 9 year old stay up until 8 though, but I haven't quite decided. I guess I am being kind of selfish, I really like having the house quiet at night and having my down time ;-)

Hi, I have a 5 and 7 yr old. They both seem to need about 10 hours minimum of sleep so I try and get them into bed, lights out by 7pm. They are up at 6:30 in the week and get really cranky if they have less than 10 hrs. On friday it is usually 8:30 but they are up still by 7am automatically - can't win! Sometimes I think 7pm is a little early but they really seem to need that much sleep so I let them. Hope this helps!

I have a daughter 7 and a son 4 years old. They both go to bed at 6.45 with a bedtime story. So they lay in bed at 7pm. They are asleep within 5 minutes. In the morning they can be up at 5 am. This is the reason why they go to bed so early. My daughter is an earlybird and wakes my son up. We have tried to put her later to bed, but didn't work out. She still wakes up very early. A bit difficult with sleepovers.

Mine are 6 and 8 and go to bed around 8-8:30 but not any later. They both have a radio in their room which they listen to at night and that seems to help them relax and it is a good routine they have gotten into. They get up about 7:30 in the morning.

My 8 and 10 year old daughters go to bed at 8 and wake up on their own between 5:30 and 6am. My 16 year old goes to bed whenever he wants and gets up at 7:15. He's old enough and responsible enough to know what is best for him.

I have 4--the 3& 5 y/o go down at 7pm. The 3 y/o is asleep right away, the 5 y/o can take an hour some days, but just lies there quietly for the most part. My other two 6 & 8 y/o go down at 7:40. The 6 y/o goes right to sleep and the 8 y/o may take an hour, but again just lies in bed quietly. The 6 & 3 y/o are up at about 7am (never before) and the 5 & 8 y/o are up around 7:30-8:15am. On weekends they pretty much still go to bed at the same time.

my 8 yr old daughter goes to bed at 9:30 on school nights and 10 on weekends. We wake her at 7 for school and let her sleep till she wakes up when she doesn't have school. I think next year I am going to move her bedtime to 9 on school nights and 10 on weekends. They have to share a room so putting them to bed at the same time is out of the question. Neither will go to sleep till after 12 that way.

I have two girls...10 and almost five. They both get in bed at 8:45 but sometimes don't fall asleep for an hour or so...especially the five year old, who usually falls asleep in my room watching tv...bad move, I know, but it makes bed time so much easier. They both usually get up at 6:30, although some days, my five year old can sleep until 7:45 if my husband can take her to school.
