is it normal that my 5 year old does not yet know how to talk properly, he knows what he wants to say and trys very hard to get his message across but is having trouble pronouncing his words.
Would appreciate any feedback

I would talk to your child's doctor about your concern and ask for a referral to a speech therapist plus one to an ENT so that his hearing can be check. If you as his mom are concerned then listen to your instinct and follow through and have him checked out.

You may also want to have his hearing tested. Sometimes children have difficulty with pronouncing things due to hearing problems which can be brought on by frequent ear infections. Your best option is to discuss with your pediatrician your concerns, and if they brush you aside do not be afraid to go for a second opinion to another doctor. After all, they are human too and are subject to make mistakes. Never take their word as law if you are uneasy about it.

I think that you would not have posted this question if you did'nt already notice that the way he talks is not the same as other kids he's age. My son did'nt talk properly when he was younger and only he's brother could understand him who was younger than him. I took him to an ENT specialist and to speech therapist. it was discovered he has a speech impairment. dont leave it too long, find out what it is firstly and then solutions for it. for e.g: speech therapy. goodluck! please update us on the outcome?

it is very common for children to mispronounce their certain sounds especially r's, this shouldnt be a problem beyond 3rd grade though. I wouldnt worry too much right now, if he is in school they will let you know if he needs speech therapy or even ask his teacher :)

my now 6 y/o had trouble pronouncing many words & I requested to have her evaluated when she started Kindergarten...she did have group speech therapy for the year & it helped quite a bit. It's worth looking into :)

not all five yrs olds can pronounce every thing very well, my son has problems with certain words, he has small teeth. and believe it or not that has something to do with it. But if he is having trouble then you should talk to your school and see about getting him in speech therapy. Both of my boys were in and are doing excellent now.

It sounds like he needs speech therapy at 5 he should be able to pronounce all his words 100% clearly.

Not being able to pronounce certain sounds is normal for many 4 and 5 year olds, but I would have him evaluated asap.
I had my son evaluated at 2.5 because of his pronunciation. He was in speech therapy from 3-3.5... for just the 'f' sound since all other mispronunciations were in 'normal' range. It helped tremendously and his speech ability has just blossomed. I'm a big believer in early intervention.
