Kindergartener oppositional with homework!!!!

This began in VPK and I really thought it was caused by the intensity of her Pre-K school (lots of homework) but it continues now even with a reasonable amount. My daughter knows the answers but purposely gives the wrong one. She is a good speller, is reading lots of simple words, knows some basic math etc. She is not the top in her class but she does well. Her behavior is VERY clearly done on purpose--it definetely works because it irritates me to NO end. However, the point is I (and her Dad) want her to succeed and this is definetely not compatible with academic success. An example would be something like spelling cat--she might spell it like b-a-t or p-a-l. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing and how did you solve the problem? I have tried removing attention and she really seems like she does not care--it does not result in any motivation, neither do negative consequences. Help?!!

lol, sorry this is like my daughter , yup defenatly know exactly what your going thru .... my five year old first loved homework, then not so much, and being there while she did it not so much for me either , and she knows how to do it , shes done it plenty of times and is really good with school but homework , uggg.... i tried everything, leaving her to consentrate in a quiet room, making her own homework desk area, the were not going anywhere till its done , blah blah blah.... nothing worked, then she wanted to play a game on my computer one night ( she likes the pbskids games, so i said not until your homework is done . i have never seen her move so fast to her backpack homework out and done the right way it was amazing!! so now when she does her homework right with no whinning she gets to play a game for a half hour before bed, it worked for me. if you can think of something she really likes and doesnt get to do it very much she might want to do homework . hope this helped :)

thanks--those are some good suggestions. She would probably benefit from doing her HW earlier in the evening but mine and my husband's schedule doesn't allow us to do it until later in the evening. we will try and be more creative--I'm sure it would work

Have you kept track of what time of day you are doing homework? We had problems with my 1st grader at the beginning of the year. We were trying to do homework when she came home from school. Now after some trail and error we have found that after supper works best for her. We also do some weird but fun things to get her in the mood. Just a few examples. We let her call our home phone from our cell phone to memorize it. We let her call Grandma and have grandma check her answers or even read to her. We do a dice game for learning money.
