My 4-year old daughter has atopic dermatitis. Any remedies for extreme itchiness and dry skin?

I'm not sure if my daughter's skin issues were as extreme as yours, but I used Baby Oil gel every morning and night on her to moisturize, and cortisone (Cortizone 10 I believe) lotion to take the itch out. Before I figured out that routine she would scratch herself til she bled. This routine has worked great for her for 6 yrs. We don't have to do it as much now, mostly in the winter. Hope you find something that works.

I have friends who have this issue and use the Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream and the Intense Moisturizing Cream and swear by it. They also have a new dye free/fragrance free skin care line call Botanical Effects. I happen to be a consultant but am not recommending it because of that, just because I know it works (one of the reasons I am a consultant). my son has dry skin and he gets worse when its cold out or he goes swimming. What I use is Uttery smooth udder cream and Keri bath oil

Melaleuca lotion is by far the best. My daughter would break out in these uncomfortable and itchy rashes when she was younger. We tried everything: Aveeno, Vaseline brand, Eucerine, Burts Bees, etc. and no matter what, she would cry during bath time and after because she said it would sting so badly. One week, I was at Target every single night buying a new product for her to try just hoping we would find something that worked. We finally gave in and try a topical steroid cream at her doctors request and that did absolutely nothing.
Then a friend told me about Melaleuca. That was 3 years ago and she hasn't had a breakout since. We solely use Melaleuca's lotion and body wash as well as other products like detergent and these have prevented her break outs. We will never use anything else and I tell all my friends about them. They are awesome. Feel free to inbox me with any questions...happy to share my story. :)

My son had something similar, he started with rashes and flaky skin. His skin was so dry that even when he was not scratching, it peeled at the folds. It was worse while he was a baby and now its very well managed.

I have used Dove Sensitive and Vaseline Creamy ever since he was about nine months and they work very well. Because he has allergies on and off we always keep a tube of prescription cream on hand and sometimes benadryl to help back when it was really bad.

We generally stay away from swimming pools, bubble baths, peanuts, eggs, and milk. For his clothes I run the wash cycle an extra cycle with no detergent, it costs a little more but has saved him a lot of discomfort. I got that tip from another Mom years ago. I hope this helps.

Hi Norreen, my family has a history of allergies, eczema and other skin issues. We have finally found an amazing solution that is not toxic, all natural and has work wonders for our children and grandchildren. So many products today have ingredients that are chemical or toxin based, like petroleum, which is thick like tar, and is used in gasoline, oil, kerosene oil. The thought of that penetrating your skin, makes me crazy.....I would love to share with you what has worked for my family....you would be amazed.

I know I already posted but my son went swimming in a hotel pool and I guess they had a lot of chlorine in it. When he got back to the room he couldn't walk his skin behind his knees was so bad. My mil got some generic tinatic (athletic's foot cream) on it and the redness went away the next day

Hydrocortizone cream works the best for my son when he gets a really "itchy and dry" itch. When my daughter had a rash, powder worked like a charm, and yes we tried all the steroids and other nonsense for that. It's hard but once you find what works for you, you'll never have to find another remedy.

go online and get freederm. my daughter had severe eczema and we tried everything in stores and also prescriptions from the dr. freederm was the only thing we found that worked!!

my son has eczema and his dr said to use body wash only when we do bathe him it is easier on the skin. Also if you can add powder milk to the oatmeal baths that helps some...My son won't let me do it, but unprocessed honey on the skin I've heard is suppose to help also.

Don't use soap on her when she bathes as this will dry her skin out even more. Look for a soap-free alternative. The Aveeno range of skin products is very good. Keep some sorbolene cream on hand as that can be used as a skin moisturiser and a cleanser. Make sure her bath/shower is more towards luke warm than hot as hot water will also dry skin out. These are things that my Dr suggested to me for my own daughter, she also has atopic dermatitis. I hope that helps you and your daughter.

Have you tried using Aveeno lotion? My daughter tends to get dry itchy skin too and thats the best brand thats worked for her. Aveeno also makes these oatmeal bath packets that I use on her usually in the wintertime.
