I'm just trying to ask other moms for advice on if I should let my 4 year old ride the school bus yet or not?? She loves the school buses, every time she sees one she says "mommy there's my school bus!" She starts school on the 26th this months and I'm still really iffy whether or not to let her ride the bus because she is still so small and I don't want her to get lost by getting off at another stop or falling asleep and the driver forgetting her. Please give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated :)

I know that here in ca. were my kids go to school the kendergatners sit right behind the bus driver. They know were each childs stop is and makes sure that they get off. If they fall asleep wich i have been told that some of the younger once do the first part of the year they just wake them up. If there is not a sertifid person that is on your emergency list they well not leave them. They take them back to the school and then call you.

Thats a scary thought, I wish I had a better answer for you but if it were me, I wouldnt let her go just yet if you can drive her.. My son goes to school around the corner from our house so he doesnt even have to take a bus even though he really wants to I just drive him because I think its a smarter idea then letting him walk or ride his bike because he's still young minded and he's in the 3rd grade.

There are reserved seating at the front of the bus for pre-k and kindergartners, I believe the teachers will be waiting at the school her and the bus driver won't let her off the bus unless me or my husband is at the bus stop until she is in 4th grade. It still worries me though because the bus is sooooo big, I just don't want her to be scared and flip out half way to school. I think I'm going to follow the bus to school the first couple days, just to be on the safe side. Thanks, it's comforting to know someone else is worried about the same thing I am.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. My 4 year old daughter starts school in september and I'm as well worried about. Mainly for the reason that the school buss contains kids from kindergarden - grade six. I dont want her to get lost and pushed around by the bigger kids. But we came to a solution with the teacher, The teacher will be there to greet the kids at the bus when it arrives, so they see a fimular face. Then either myself of their dad will be at the bus stop to get my daughter everyday. This way once your face is known by the bus driver, they will know to stop, therefore it becomes a routine for your child. See if there is possible reserved seating at the front of the bus for your young one. Hope that brings a little piece of mind! Good luck with the first day of school... I know its going to be a tough one for me.
