My 4 year old son has a fear of pooing on the toilet, he only goes when he is absolutely desperate and when we take him and the its a mad rush. he is in full time school and has accidents now and again because he won't just go when he feels the need. It seems to cause him stress, any ideas from people who have experienced the same problem.

I had the same problem with my second daughter it got to the point wher she would make herself constipated from not going and the nurse suggested the same as Shirly. We only have one toilet but we decorated it with whatever she wanted, got a rewards chart. We also got a small toilet seat and put stickers on it and party hats and party blowers and made a big deal when she finally went.

Hello my son is five and he has suffered from this for almost a year. He would only go a poo if I put my 3 year old daughters nappy on him and then as soon as he was finished he would ask for it to be taken off. I seeked help from the school nurse who advised the following and it has worked. We are lucky enough to have two toilets in our house. So we have dedicated the downstairs toilet as the one he goes for a poo in. We have put up posters in the toilet along with cut outs of his favorite characters such as spider man batman and ben 10. We have a reward chart up on the toilet door so everytime he does a poo sitting on the toilet he gets a sticker and if he has a set amount by the end of the week he gets a reward. The nurse also suggested that we get a little stool and when he is sitting on the toilet get him to have his feet flat on the stool and give him a pot of bubbles to blow as he is going to the toilet. When he is blowing the bubbles his muscles relax giving him no option to go a poo. We have been doing this for the last two weeks and its worked I really didn't think it would. Make the toilet a pleasent place and not a scary plae they need to feel comfortable and not ruched. Maybe 30 mins afetr he has had a meal get him to sit on the toilet and try him with the bubbles. Hope this helps x
