My sons dad died. Will it sink in later on?

My 7 year old's dad, my ex husband, died on August 11, 2010. He hasn't cried about, but he asked a few questions. When I asked if he understood, he said, "My dad went to heaven". His dad had standard visitation. I took Brian to the funeral and he wouldn't let go of my arm. It was a closed casket so I'm not sure he gets it. Will he grieve in other ways like acting out? or is he just too young to understand?

He's old enough to understand. You'd be amazed what kids can understand. He just grieves in a different way then you do. He also may feel that he has to stay strong from you since you're his momma. Just sit down and talk to him about it. Tell him that it is o.k. to cry if he needs to.

It also may not have sunk in yet since it just happened a few days ago. Another good reason to talk to him and be there for him for when it does sink in. Don't force him to talk about it though.
