My 7 yr old is going to be in a nutrition parade and has to dress as a food from a food group. Looking for something easy to make at home. Suggestions and easy directions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A friend of mine took a cardboard box and cut holes for the head and arms into it. She covered the box with white paper and wrote "Milk 2%" on it. It looked awesome!

Well, can he pick his own food?

Cheese is easy, yellow poster board with straps front and back, draw cut it in a triangle shape, and draw the holes in it.

Bread (or wheat) is again, easy...posterboard.

Actually, posterboard is a mom's best friend at these ages. I've used it to make a myriad of halloween and play costumes!

Carrot, I'd get a yard or so of orange fabric, wrap it around them (so that they can still walk) and bits of green felt glued together as a "cap" of the leaves.

The main thing to remember is you DON'T have to sew, if you (like myself) are "sewing challenged". Fabric glue is a wonderful thing to have on hand.

Take it from this "non-sewing" mom: I have made my kids everything from Scooby Doo (complete with collars, and spots on their brown sweatsuits), playing cards (did it a couple of years in a row because they were so easy), star trek characters, robots, etc. There are lots of sites on the net, too. Just Google "easily constructed costumes"
