Our 5 year old has behavior problems and we would like peoples opinions on what might be wrong, and if its normal. We have seen several docs and get a different opinion every time. She is moody, irritable, easily distracted, gets upset by routine changes, smart and quick to learn, cant seem to follow more than 1 instruction, needs constant reminders to get things done, drifts off in the middle of doing things, extreme agressive and violent snap on tempers (can last up to an hour), No regard for consequences (randomly strangles, hits, jumps on others because its funny) Wont sit still, doesnt seem to listen most of the time, wont look at you when speaking, or if your speaking to her. The list goes on. Any ideas from anyone?

Without seeing your little one it is difficult to reply. Some of what you discribe is normal for a child with low concerntration span and some of what you describe is border line autistic. I would start by getting her into some sort of sport that lets her get her energy out. Either dance class or horse riding or even karate. You will be amazed how much she will listen to instruction if she is enjoying herself.

Then I would work on her concerntration by introducing wind down time half an hour before bath. In this time try and do jigsaw puzzles with her and play pairs. A quiet game that requires her attention. She may at first only be able to sit for a few minutes at a time but work on that every day.

When you want her attention then get down to her level and move her head gently until she is looking at you, then talk to her. The same with trying to tell her off, eye contact first and then explain to her why she can not just jump on people. Always ask her if she understands and end the chat with a hug.
