I know this sounds silly, but I have a 4 year old little girl who can't wait for preschool. My mom watches her while I work so I don't have to send her to preschool. My dilemma is the swine flu, the vaccine won't be out until mid Oct. I don't think she will be able to get one because in the past her doctor wouldn't even vaccinate for regular flu because she is healthy. I don't want to keep her from school, but I also don't want to expose her to something that has been deadly in children her age. Any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Rene

My biggest suggestion would be to practice good hygene and don't stress about it. Although swine flu is serious, it is treatable just like the regular flu. I wouldn't keep her from school over this. If she develops flu-like symptoms, be sure and keep her hydrated and try to keep the fever down. I'd also call the doctor's office and let them know what's going on and they can further instruct you. It's true that this can be deadly but I think what a lot of people forget is that so can the flu. Just like any other time they get sick, you find ways to get them better. Keeping them home to aviod it just isn't my thing I guess. I'd say let your daughter go and enjoy school. I know at my kids' preschool, they are very conscious about the spreading of germs and talk frequently to the kids about it. She will miss out on so much if she's always concerned with the "what ifs". Enjoy each day and deal with anything that comes as it comes, but don't stop life over a possiblity. Hope this helps! =)
