For my daughters 8th bday party, we had a sleepover at the party we did a movie theme. I borrowed a video camera (bought a few cd's or tapes) hung a dark sheet and had the kids dress up in my old clothes or halloween costumes and put on miny movies. We then had popcorn and watched the movies. To keep with the theme you could make the cake have film on it and other movie themes. I then gave each kid there cd(or tape) as there party gift.

For my daughters 8th birthday, we did a princess pamper party, all came in princess outfits, had a little disco with the usual games in between them being pampered. Do you know anyone thats good with hair & makeup?. With a few nibbles it cost me £65

Love that idea for decorating little buckets for the kids. Also girls love music so you could play a game of freeze dance for 15 20 minutes. Between decorating, cake, dancing and presents you could be done. Also if you have it at local park it's free and gives the kids something else to do when your done with your planned stuff

Get sicks, put soft colored candy and put inside small buckets. This way you decorate and the guests get their candy. I did that for my daughter and everybody loved it. There was no piñata or goody bags
