Hand held games are nice as well. My son has a camera to take pictures. We play I spy, the alphabet game, movies, books, he colors. Lots of snacks are important and that helps them sleep.

I went to the dollar store and got a bunch of small stuff to put into a plastic shoebox-coloring books each, 'game' books, like puzzles, a fake barbie...whatever is age appropriate. Then I wrote their name all big on the top of the box and filled it up (i included a granola bar or crackers and a juice box-juice box was small enough they felt like they drank but we didnt have to stop to pee right away). I left the boxes on the back seat of my van and told them all about it the night before, so the kids were pumped up about it. I told them they couldn't open it till we hit the interstate (like 10 mins away) and they loved it! Also, try printing a copy of a blank US map with all the states on it, then see is they can name them all, and color in the states when they see a license plate from there. Good luck!

We do the alphabet game too. Or can you name that type of truck, or the counting game (how many trucks can you find), shapes of clouds. The magna doodles are great. They also have things that attach to the seat in front to make a table - we bring crayons, activity books, etc. (we use the dvds as last resort)

Well, my husband loves the game "Who can be the quietest", but my daughter is not a fan of that game, lol!! We usually play the alphabet game - try to spot every letter of the alphabet in order on license plates and billboards. Also, a lot of dollar stores have travel games; they're like checkers and things, all magnetic. The ony drawback is a lot of tiny missing pieces, lol. Portable DVD players are a bit more expensive, but a lifesaver sometimes!!! Travel bingo is GREAT!!!! Like regular bingo, but the squares have things like a farm, tree grove, mini-van, etc. - that's our favorite. Good luck!!
