Humidifier and saline nasal drops help. Other than that, Motrin or Tylenol for aches and that's it. We were told to give Delsym if coughs prevented restful sleep.

They say that it's best to let it run it's course, unless of course there is a fever. Plenty of fluid and warm steamy baths. I use a warm mist humidfier at night to help Addison when she is congested.

Try homeopathy. Google homeopathy, and check out some websites. Get a general idea of what it is about. Local health food stores and farmer's markets can help also. The FDA does regulate homeopathy. Give lots of fluids, and remember to help them blow their nose. They need to get the junk out, and it is so hard for a two year old to do this. You may need to use the Nose Sucker-yes, that blue bulb looking thing. Walmart has them. If the cold is bad enough and leads to sinus infection, etc., your doctor may prescribe a decongestant.

Hi, My pediatrician, who is very well respected and who has been around for a while does not suggest giving them anything other than Motrin or Tylenol. There have been dangers I think with the cold and cough medicine, however, we really needed to give our 3 year old some cough medicine recently...it was bad and he wouldn't stop coughing. Measure CAREFULLY said the pharmacist....most parents don't per the FDA which is why they don't put the measurements on the box. We used Delsym which is 12hr and it was just for cough. If your child needs decongestant, talk to the pharmacist and they can recommend something. You'd probably need about 1/2tsp.
Hope that helps!
