when is a good age for a girl to start shaving her legs?

My daughter is 9 I also went with her decision. She does have a little more hair than other girls her age. She doesn't do it on a regular basis, just when she feels the need. I did buy her the razors and give her a "lesson" on shaving. Since I allowed her to do it and didn't make a big deal about it, I have noticed she has lost interest. Sometimes I think she just wants to grow up to fast. This wasn't a "battle" I felt was important. As you know you have to pick your battles. Good luck : )

I started in 5th grade. I seemed to have a lot more hair than the other girls my age. My mom started me with an electric one for shaving legs ( probably so i wouldn't cut myself and could get used to the shaving process). In about 6th grade I switched over to a normal razor. I am glad I started shaving when I did you can't believe how mean boys and girls can be even at this age..

My daughter started shaving her legs when she about 13 years old. (she is 17 now) We discussed it for about 3 months or so before she started. I have always felt that the "self-consciousness/embarrassed" guideline mentioned by Maria Sumner was a good indicator, along with consideration of the individual young lady. I would say it would probably not be an issue until she starts Middle School, where she is having P.E. class with other girls who are probably already shaving and can be critical. Also, my daughter is a dancer and found that she reached a point where hairy legs were very uncomfortable under tights! lol. Ultimately, you and she will know when it is the right time for your daughter.
