kids r cruel....so if she feels the need to shave you can teach her or let her learn how to veet, which can become expensive. My daughters hair was black and we let her start with the veet at 9 and taught her how to shave eventually.

i agree with the other ladies. i think that once you start to see the hair you should let your daughter start shaving her legs. you dont want the child to feel embarassed by something like that. my daughter is white, with no other mix and she has light hair on her legs, she is only 9 so im hesitating and trying to wait as long as i can before she starts shaving. the ideas about the creams are very good, but i def agree with carla, make sure you try it on a small area of skin first.

I am 25 yrs old and started shaving at about 14. I'm Trinidad decent and I have corse black hair on my legs that was really embarrassing. I got teased about it all the time and I shaved without telling anyone cause I knew my grandmother wouldn't let me. As a result I ended up with numerous nix and cuts since I had no idea wat I was doing. I'd say talk to her about it and then if it's that big of an issue u shud def go ahead with the nair

My daughter is going into the sixth grade and has been harassing me to shave. My only issue is whether or not she's mature enough to handle the upkeep of shaving her legs. It's not one of those things you can stop and start or it will make the hair worse. I have thought about the Veet and may let her try it. I would say if you decide to allow it, to use something like Veet first and see if she can be responsible enough to keep it up. If she does well, then let her move onto shaving.

I was in 6th grade when I first started shaving, but I have a few friends that didn't start until 8th or 9th grade. I started because all of my classmates were shaving and I was embarrassed. I actually wore long pants until April or May. My mom finally asked me why I refused to wear shorts anymore and I started shaving at that time.

I started to shave my legs in the 7th grade, big mistake b/c I would have hair on my legs now if i would'nt have started. I just wanted to fit in. But i think if it is absolutly necessary then go for it.

when she asks to ..

but do explain that once you start the hair gets thick and coarse and you can't really stop then. my sister has NEVER shaved her legs and she is 30. she has sparse blonde hair on her legs and no one even notices. i am older than her and was harassed into it by constant teasing by boys at school, but i wish i never had, cos now i have to cos of the dark wiry hair.

she went to a school where they wore trousers all the time, so no one noticed and no one harassed her. at my school we had to wear dresses and the boys got really nasty about it.

I feel as a cosmo person, that Veet or waxing would be the best. After so long the hair will not return or if it does then it less and lighter, and truly its cost less. Its a great mother daughter activite as well, make it a beauty day.

If you let her use Nair or Neet, make sure you test is on a LITTLE area first. I was sooo allergic to it that I looked like someone had parboiled me!

4th grade is a little young, but if she's very hairy, it can be a self-esteem-thing. Use your best judgment.

if the hair is visible and emarrassing her then u could always try the hair removal creams first -- veet & nair.

That's a good question cause mine wants to start shaving now, she is 9...I started shaving her armpits a cpl months ago cause she had her dance recital and she had some hair. Her hair is dark on her legs, she is mixed white and black, so I understand the dark hair. I also look at the point she's only 9 who cares if she has hairy legs or not?! I think the only reason she wants to shave is cause I did her armpits...I am still debating...

My dd is 11 going into 6th grade and she started shaving last year. She was already shaving her underarms and just took it upon herself to shave her legs.

Now the past several months she has quit shaving her legs because it is too annoying. :D So it depends on the child. If she has hair that shows and bothers her- teach her to shave, if it isn't bugging her then don't worry about it.

Good luck!

I didn't care to shave when I was in 4th grade. I would say when she thinks she should and/or when she is embarrassed about the leg hair. I've been thinking about the same thing with my daughter and her dad and I have different opinions on it, but we settled on I'm a girl I get it more then he dose.

My daughter was in 4th grade when I taught her how to Veet her legs. We are Native American and German, so we are dark haired women. My daughter is now 11 and has moved on to shaving. I would recomend like Veet or Nair to start out with, less accidents for us.

In my opinion, I'd say your daughter should start shaving when you can actually see the hair. I was in like grade 8 with super dark hair on my legs and i wouldn't wear shorts or skirts. I was embarrassed because my parents didn't think I was old enough to shave. When she starts to be embarrassed about her legs, I'd let her start shaving.
