OK, that's a bit frustrating, especially as a mom feeling like the Dr. isn't taking you seriously. Still, good job, Mom.
My encouragement is this: When my 1st born was about 3 years old, I remember talking to a friend of mine who is a speech therapist about my daughter's speech. I was worried about a stutter that I thought was forming. My friend told me that lots of small kids can kind of stutter, not because they are actually forming a speech problem, but because they are trying to find the right word. It could be that his vocabulary is growing, and therefore needs more time to search for the right word. Also, my friend told me that when a child is having a "growth spurt" in one area (like speech) you can tend to see "regression" in another (maybe potty training?). My daughter is 9 yars old now, and her language developed without any problems.
Not to say it's all nothing, but if the Dr. isn't worried and you have the referral in place, at this point if it were my child I would watch it. If things get worse, get a 2nd opinion. Wouldn't it be cool if you could cancel the referral in a few months?

Thanks all, i took him to a doctor and got knowhere! She said his eating things is good for him to build up his immune system, did a urine test which i havent heard back about, so im assuming its fine, thats how it usually works and for his speech she said to put him on the list which we are on which is an 18 month wait!

If he seems to have regressed, it's usually a sign that something's not quite right - whether it be something traumatic for him, or something physiological. I would suggest taking him to your GP, and asking for a referral to a child psychologist.

I agree about the child psychologist. Wetting is a sign of something being on his mind that may need to be addressed. It's better to be safe than sorry. His craving for eating strange things could probably be addressed by a pediatrician and given vitamins appropriate for his age. He may have a deficiency there. I don't know much about speech problems but was told if studdering gets worse it could be because they are frustrated...I would take plenty of time working with him myself to assure him he's going to be okay and I would also make sure he's only around people you trust until the wetting is dealt with. Thanks Mary will be making an appointment to a GP this week and asking for an appropriate refferal. I live in Western Australia and we dont have private health insurance but we are going to be getting it in the new year and yes i think its better to be safe than sorry also. :)

It would depend on where you live, and how your insurence works. If it were me, I would call the nurse back and ask her for a referral. Make sure you describe all the things that are going on so she can make the referral to the appropriate doctor. Truly, it might be nothing but better safe than sorry.

Set an appointment for a pediatric neurologist and child psychologist. There could be something a little more going on here that needs addressing. Good Luck!
