I had cervical cancer and had to have a hysterectomy at 28yrs. I don’t want my daughter going what I went threw, but I'm still concerned about new medicine and the side effects I just hope I made the right decision She had to have shots for school today & I had them start the series of Gardasil.

I think Gardasil is positive. My daughter vaccinated a few years ago when it first came out. I did leave the choice to her; and at first she was going to decline because who wants to have an elective shot?! I explained that this shot was preventative much like wearing a seatbelt in the car. You wear it because you never know if you might be in an accident and if you are, it might just save your life.

I think you did the right thing.

my 13 year old was vaccinated a couple of years ago and is doing fine. It is a good idea not to get the vaccine on an empty stomach. its a series of three shots and on her second time we went right after school and she was a bit sick the next day. I encourage everyone to get the Gardisil vaccine for their daughters. I read an article in the current issue of Women's Health and HPV is the most common STD out there and the article stated that its so rampant that just about everyone who has had sex has been exposed to it to some degree. This is a great article. It talked about a growing trend among young women having unprotected sex. I plan on saving this article and talking with my daughter about it but you know that at some point in their lives they will have unprotected sex so I see the vaccine as one way we can help protect them.

I am going through a lot of stuff right now that has to do with HPV. And it really sucks! I want to get the shot for my daughter when she gets older so that she doesnt have to go through all that I have been going through. My best friend started her daughter on the shots and she seems to be doing ok. I think you made the right decision.

On my daughters 11 yr old checkup the doctor brought it up and I had already did the reaerch on it but I wanted her opinion too. She said that she would get it for her daugher. So I let her do the series of shots and my daughter didnt have any of the side affects. I know that it doesnt cure all cervical cancers but I think that its a good thing for girls to get. My other two will get it too.
