Hi- I am from Urbana IA - a small town close to Cedar Rapids. My husband drives pretty much all over. He has been driving 2 years now and I am just starting to adjust to being a "single" parent to two boys 10 and 11 both with special needs. I work full time also- for sanity! We have been married 9 years in June.

I so understand what you guys are going through. My husband also works for Mclane, but he is out of Kissimmee, Florida. We have 2 girls that miss him when he is gone. My husband only drives in the state of Florida so he is home everyday. It still is hard because he is sleeping during the day and gone at night. But like you said "it pays the bills." It just makes for more quality time when they are home. Hang in there.

Hi everyone, I am from small town in KY. Barbourville. I have been a driver for 15 years in march. My husband has been a driver for about 25 years. we have a 13 yrs old at home so I just drive local so I can be home everynight he driver our truck for the same company that I work for and is home every weekend.

We're from a small town in Texas. My husband has been driving for 3 years. He's owner/operator and drives for a family owned business. Most of his family lives here and pretty much everyone drives. We have a 3 year old daughter, and I just started working full-time again. Trucking here has been sloooooooow. We've considered trying something else if things don't pick up soon! He's not ready to quit, because even though it can be REALLY frustrating at times... he loves it. Maybe its because he grew up in a family of truckers. It's what he knows. :)

Longview Texas :) my husband drives a TANKER truck. they haul salt/fresh water. its a local job but he works nights. 6pm-6am. i hate it because we have a 3 almost 4 year old and a 5month old and he barely ever sees them :(

We are from Southern Ontario. My husband drives all over the countryside including USA and Canada. He works hauling oversize machinery to various places, sometimes being away for 3weeks at a time. We have 1 daughter, a little girl 2 yrs old. My husband has been driving for 12 years now...time flies

Hi I live in a little town just north about 10 miles from Redding , ca called shasta lake city, ca. My husband has been driving for about 15 years now. We have owned are own truck for about 6 of those years. We are leased to a company of of Harsburg ,Or. Things are real slow right now. but it has to get better. We have 3 boys and have been married for 17 years. He gets home every weekend. I look forward to him coming home but sometimes i can not wait for him to leave.

New to the group and hello to all. I live in a small town in Middle Tennessee called Smithville. My hubby has been driving for about 5 years now, but he doesn't do traditional "freight hauling" per se. He is a truck transportation specialist as he calls it. In other words, if you have ever seen a semi truck going down the road, towing another semi truck backwards, that's what he does. He is what I call a "boom driver". With our economy and banks refusing to lend money his work has all but dried up and put us in dire straits until recently. I've just graduated from nursing school though and my job starts in just a few weeks thankfully.

Hello to everyone, We live in South East Queensland Australia. My Hubby has been driving trucks for over 34 years now and still enjoys it. He has drivin' everything from General Frieght to Refridgerated Vans. Has done Heavy Haulage . We pulled Road Trains across the Nullabour Plains for a few years. Then was driving Quad Side Tippers up north at Cloncurry in Queensland for quite a while.Now he is back doing the interstate in a B Double from Cairns to Perth Western Australia or where ever the load is for. We have seen so much of Australia and I miss not being able to go more often but do when I can.

I am new to this site. But I am glad that I found it. My husband is a truck driver . He just went back on the road yesterday and I miss him already. He works so very hard in his job and he is such a great guy. It will be nice to talk to others that have truck driving husbands.

Hi, Im from Coffs Harbour in Northern NSW, Australia. My husband has been driving semi trailers for 3 yrs. He would love to get a B double or even better a road train job. We just moved here a year ago to get away from the rat race of Sydney and bought our first house, so its very exciting, but theres not alot of jobs around here, and unfortunately they pay alot less than he was earning in Sydney. We have a 2 1/2 yr old and I had hoped to get a job and supplement the income.But after a year of searching we have decided to have a 2nd child instead. So I am expecting our baby in Sept 09. I have really been worried about hubby being away once the baby comes, but after reading all your posts, I should think myself lucky he comes home every weekend and the occasional drop-in during the week on his way through. I'm sure I'll manage just fine, lol. Its amazing how comforting these messages can be to realise im not the only one going through this. My friends married to non-trucking husbands think Im crazy and should be thrilled my hubby is away all week, but they just dont get it. Sometimes I feel like just a housekeeper/baby sitter.Im sure you all understand. Well, looking forward to future posts and glad I joined this group!

I am Linda from Middle TN. Hubby has been OTR for almost 3 yrs. We have 2 boys ages 9 and 7. Hubby is a company driver for Marten. He drives a refer and has been to 41 of the 48 continuous states. We see him every 2 to 3 weeks for 3 or 4 days. We also homeschool. The boys are looking forward to next Jan because they can both start riding with him (1 at a time).

I just joined this group and I live in a small town called Hull in West Central, IL.  My husband was an owner/operator until 7 years ago when he went to work for a company in IL.  He now drives a truck and is also a Driver Trainer.  He has been driving for over 23 years.  He drives refrigerated vans and has to go to Idaho a lot as they opened a new plant there.  Trucking is the only life we know and right now I wouldn't change anything except I wish he could be home a little more often.

Hey everyone, i'm from Zebulon North Carolina about 10-15 minutes from the capital Raleigh. It's a lonely world in truckers wife, it's just like being a miltary wife (alomst). We were doing it together and what I mean by that is I was on the truck for first 2.5 yrs and now he kicked me off so he can train other drivers and make more money, and what he don't realized is the money I don't really care about just his safety and concern. But, once the ecomony and freight gets better he'll be home more often. But we can make it through...

Hi. I am from London Ontario and my husband has been trucking since I met him 15 years ago. He started running to California weekly about 8 years ago. We have two kids, a 13 year old boy and 11 year girl. They have both done the L.A. run with their Dad and love it. We all went last Christmas and had a great time. I used to have my license but started having kids and decided that was more important. I have always felt like a single parent but we are all used to it. He would probably drive me nuts if he was around all the time. LOL.

Akron, Ohio area. My husband has been driving truck for the last 15 years. We have only been married for 7 of those. When I first met him, 8 years ago, he was driving long distance. I was a single mom with 2 kids under 2. He quit to be closer to us and took a local trucking job. When we married, the truck he was driving was our get-a-way vehicle. He recently was hurt while doing that job and while in recovery, has been offered another job to go back on the road. When he is released to return to work, he will be going back on the road. I'll miss him, but I think it will be the best thing for us.

Modesto California here. Husband's been driving trucks 26 years hauling pool chemicals, semis of bleach 16 of those. He's home daily. Does have an overnighter occasionally. Makes for long days, not many hours together. We have been married 34 years, have 1 daughter 33.

Duffield, Virginia...it's about 15 minutes from the Virginia/Tennessee state line. My husband has been driving a truck for about +10 years now. He has the same route up to Chicago twice a week. I'm lucky that he's not gone long...usually leaves 1 day then gone the next and back by the evening after. The company that he works for was just bought out so we'll see it goes for awhile. They've been talking about layoffs...it's kind of scary.

I have 3 kids, a 10 year old girl and 18 and 20 year old boys. My husband no longer does long haul trucking, but he is gone for 26-48 hours at a time, so I still spend lots of time alone! Thank goodness the company he works for is doing fairly well in these economically tough times, so I am grateful for every day that he's on the road!

Oh, WOW! There are alot of you from Canada! That's awesome! My husband is from Alberta & we are looking to possibly move there at the end of this summer because he has a daughter that lives there & it's just so hard to be away from her. Anyway, right now we live in Washington state. We have 2 daughters 5 & 7 & a little boy 2 in April & one on the way in June!! My husband used to go transport from BC to WA & OR but, is currently out of work & has been since Oct. The economy is so tough! He would LOVE to get out of trucking but, without any other training it's hard to do. He's been doing it for over 10 years now. Anyway, good to get to know you ladies a bit more! :)
