I have been married a little over three years now. I would like to hear from people that have been married over 15 years. I would like to know how long you have been married, and your best tip to keeping a great marriage.

We have been married for 19 years, and been together for 21. The one blessing in our marriage is we have open communication, and the other is humor. To be able to have an open communication, you have to have an open mind and look at it at an objective perspective, then you need to learn to cope with life together with humor, specially when you have children! Then, you have to have steadfast faith. It's what got us through the good and the tough times. You both have to be good listeners to each other, not just to other people. Be good to yourself. Allow yourself leeway to admit that you also make mistakes and admit it. Give him space, ask the same thing sometimes. Don't be afraid to enjoy and explore things together. Do not allow yourselves to go to bed angry. Always remember to count your blessings and thank God for them, for we are nothing without Him.

Well thank you Shelly.. Oh ya we are eachothers best friends. I don't want to take over the thread but thanks. We got a challenge by my old boss who is going on her 56th wedding anniversary she challenged us on our Wedding day to make it to 50 years - we we're pleased to except that challenge!

I think you should listen to each other and pray about the things you disagree on so God can help you. Life is hard sometimes but, put God first and everything else will fall into place!!!

Keep God involved and you can get through anything - rough times come but they do pass, roll with the punches keep fighting for your love and you'll see even through thoes times that seem like you aren't going to get through them you fall in love with each other all over again. I have not been Married 15+ years my hubby and I have been together for about 10 years we finally got married this year on Valentines Day - but we have probably been though as much as some couple that were Married 15+ years. We have gone to bed mad and woke up mad too but were still working out the kinks...lol.. we'll be working awhile!! (I have to thank my parents for my values on marriage) God Bless your Marriage, And may you have many many many happy years together.

so for your July anni do you plan on celebrating by traveling to minnesota? Thats always a great get away for people going on 19 yrs. lol

I think communication is a great tip. That was my parents' problem. And because they did not lay everything out on the table to each other, their relationship ended after 21 years.

Lynn,

As you know we will be married 19 yrs in July and the most important thing that has held our marriage together is communication we talk about every thing even the things that we know will hurt each others feelings. But we always work thru it by talking we never go to bed mad and no we haven't had any nights of staying up all night b/c we are mad!!! LOL...We have had a few rough yrs before we figured this out but with Gods help we have made it thru every valley we have travled!!

We have been married for 19 years. There are many things that contribute to having a good marriage. If I had to narrow it down to a few, I would say when you are upset with your husband, remember he is not the enemy. You are in this marriage together. Two, listen to his view points and don't be afraid to do things his way at times. It's so easy to get focused on "why can't he change" and forget to change ourselves. And third, respect him. Remember to encourage him and tell him the things you love about him. Little things really DO count. ...God Bless your marriage!
