Lol.... I found out that if I tell them to lower their voices, the louder they get! But, when I tell them that I can't hear them until they lower down their voices, then they stop and think about it, then calm down. Most of the time they get the hint! Lol

Say the childs name (while looking at them). When they look at you, simply put your finger over your mouth & say sshhhh (very softly, slow - for about 3 or 4 seconds). Then, in a soft voice, tell them to be quiet using whatever words you feel best suits your child.

I'm totally laughing @ your replies (in a good way)! It's funny how our husbands can be even louder then our children. So anyway my advice is to get louder!!! My husband thinks it's funny & then realizes what I'm doing. If we are in public & he says something loud that might be embarassing I do the same thing back to him. What's good for the goose...

Durrr me, I thought you meant the kids...

My miscommunication - for men, much the same as the kids...ignore the loudness and tune it out or remind him about his indoor voice too...still trying to figure out my big kid's habits too!

LOL! Daniel currently only uses his loud voice when he's sick of being at the shops. I put my hand over his mouth (gently) and say "shhh" but it only works for about 30 seconds.

*lol*

I'm still trying to figure it out BUT I do repeatedly remind them gently to use their indoor voices please.

Keep doing that and eventually they will catch on to it, I tend to tune out the loud noise unless it's cries of pain, fighting or other emergency like sounds from them. It's hard the loud noise but sometimes kids need to be loud to expend pent up energies or express themselves - just keep reminding them to use indoor voice.
