We lock the door... we don't turn on any music or anything, that way if they do wake up we can hear them, and we end up cutting it short... If it's a quick fix we pick up where we left off, otherwise we try again another night...

I agree with the "baby" monitor idea. My daughter is 5 and I still use baby monitors! I think I'll be using them for a while to come. It eases my mind, as a mother, because my husband and I shut our door when going to bed and my daughter also prefers her door shut. So, that takes care of your worries about possibly not hearing the kids. If you're worried about the kids hearing you... I find that it is near impossible to hear outside of my room when there is a fan running on medium/high with the door shut! So, when you put the kids to bed, run a fan in their room(s)! It may take a while getting used to/trusting that this will actually work so leaving the monitors on every night (even when you and your husband aren't "hooking up") will help you learn to trust that the monitors WILL help you clearly hear what is going on in your childrens room(s)!

I agree! Put on some noise like a TV or radio. If you have a garage or seperate building from the house, try it out there. Take a monitor with you so you can hear if they wake up.

I think it is a motherly thing my husband can completely forget the kids are in the next room, however I am always worried they will wake up also! Sometimes it helps for me when I turn on the radio on low!

hmmmmm good question. Depends on the age. If he or she is a newborn. I don't see anything wrong with it. But as the child gets older?? well, then questions come up that's hard to answer.
