My DH has been unemployed for a year now, and he's starting back to school next week for 3 years. We have 2 kids (age 3 and 2) and money is tight. I'm having a hard time coming up with a special father's day and need some help ladies! He is such a hard working, helpful dad and husband and we really want to show our love. (The kids color but don't do much for crafts yet. He doesn't have an office to put picture frames or anything that we would make like that...) HELP!!

We did a skit for my husbands bday. We sang and dance to 3 little ducks rhyme. We made beaks & feet out of construction paper. THen a yellow feather boa cut into pieces for around our necks then the rest to the feathers pinned to our bums for tail feathers. He really enjoyed it. He knew we worked on it forever. My daughter was 3 (loved it) my son 13 (he didn't enjoy it but he did it). It was cute and he knew there was thought in it & he loved watching the kids & myself be silly.

My husband just had a birthday, he is unemployed and just started school, I made him his favorite meal, I sacrificed some of my weekly treats to afford it, and made him a coupon book, you can do what ever you want with coupon books, be creative, offer to mow the lawn one day instead of him if it is possible so he can spend that time with the kids or on a hobby, to stop reading or what ever it is you normally do on your own time that can infringe on couple time and do something with him, etc. My husband loved his and has used it a few time already. this is also a perfect gift your kids can give when they are older and times are tough. Hope this helps.

depends on what he likes.... My dh likes a day off to do whatever he wants, his favorite dinner... A practical gift for school, paper, pens/pencils/zip drive, calculator. Is there anything he's mentioned that he needs? I've had my MIL babysit and I cleaned dh's truck for him, cleaned his 'room' for him ( the only room in the house I don't go into b/c his craft stuff is in there - he does stained glass, and does painting too), it really depends on what would be meaningful to your dh.... Have your kids do finger painting on paper, and turn it into a card. That's what we are going to do this year! Breakfast in bed is good too... or one year I made a report card for my mom for mothers day. It read something along the lines of:
Caring...A
Helpful...A
Cooking...A

You get the picture. :)

I think the gift of time can be just as special as a present. We are in a similar situation and my son is only 9 mon old so he can't even color yet. He wants his Truck Detailed so I got a babysitter and my friend is helping me (yes I will be scrubbing it from top to bottom :) ) detail his truck. It is not about the cost but about the love you put into the gift. Is there something he enjoys you could make time for him to do or he wants that you could do for him? In these times we have to get creative. I am always a fan of coupon books too for kisses, hugs, back rubs, extra guys night or video game night, etc.

My Hubby love's his "Alone Time" so maybe breakfast in bed? You take the munchkins off to the park and Dad can do nothing and have peace and quiet for 2-3 hours.

And practical stuff for school? Like back pack. pencil case, water bottle. Things he's going to want to have any way. Maybe even a special photo sew it inside the back pack so when he opens it up he see's you guys holding a sign "Get A's Dad!!" every time he opens it up he will see that :-)

Dinner of his favorite food and you could have a sundae party after with the kids.
Since he is going to school a photo bookmark would be fun. We did this one year. Found it on Martha Stuart website

And this one is really fun too and the kids would probably enjoy!
