young children with speach proplems

i have a 5 year old boy that has problems talking it has taken this long to find out that it was somthing simple as wax but wasnt piced up by the doctor little to late now it is hard for any mum or dad to understand there child but when other children around you the same age are having convos with familys and u long for that ay with out anger from the child and upset becuse you cant make out what he or she is saying it wasnt untill he went to pre-school that we found a diffrent way of talking through pictur cards it help alot but as a mum it upset me when he was upset and i didnt know why or how i could help him even now i struggle sometimes but he is getting there with help from others

Be patient, Mom. My first born was the same way. He was starting to talk when he's younger brother was born (they're almost a year apart) when he decided that because his brother was getting more the attention by cooing, so he stopped talking. It was tough that we didn't see it coming. But, my husband had the same problem; he was diagnosed with speech impediment. It still shows from time to time, and he's in his 50s. So, can you imagine a little boy having the same problem? When you feel frustrated, put yourself in his shoes, then you'll understand. Since he's starting K, he may need a helpful speech therapist or counselor to help him. He's young, his chances are great at overcoming his problem, so long as you work at it, and overlook his embarrassment. I hope this helps.

sign can be a great bridge I have used it with my speech delayed daughter. It really help. How frustrated your son must be wanting to communicate but not being able to. this is usually why they are pitching a fit and you have No Idea what is upsetting them.

I used to ask My DD to help Mommy out please speak slowly and clearly... so its not all on her. Like its a bit my fault I can't understand her. Also I did Do all the therapy stuff the speech therapist gave me to do each week. Every day we worked on her speech because 30 min 2x a week is not enough time to correct the problem.

Since it looks like its just wax in his ears and its a hearing issue once that is kept clean he will suddenly start to improve by leaps and bounds and in a year everyone will be saying how far he has come.

Have you tried using baby sign language. We started it about 6 months ago and it's hard work but worth it our son can now sign basic things like juice and more or food. It takes a lot of patience but it is worth it. Is your son under a speech therapist as maybe they could suggest some techniques to help you communicate with him. I still have trouble understanding my son when he talks i usually nod and say really. Terrible i know but signing is a slow process and he hasn't quite got putting 2 signs together x
