2nd baby quicker or not??

Everyone's different, but my labor was quicker. 1st - from first contraction was almost 24 hours, hard contractions about 7 hours, pushing about 1 hour. 2nd - from first contraction just under 12 hours, hard contractions just under two hours, pushing about 1/2 hour (from 3 to 10 cm in 10-15 min!!) I was taken by surprise by how fast my second went and was definitely not prepared for it. :)

From the 2nd my water broke till the time my son arrived i was in labor for 11hours and 58minutes. as well as 45minutes of pushing. I had an epidural the last 2 hours of it. I am hoping my 2nd goes faster. My 2nd is a girl and ive herd girls usually come faster but we will see.

my son was a 12 hour labor and i pused for 4 of those hours:( it was miserable i tore and had alot of problems and it took me 4 months to heal so when i got pregnant with my daughter around my son's first birthday i was scared to death about the labor. my doctor wanted to induce me because my son was so big so i went in on august 12th 2010 and we started the pitocin at 10:15 and i had my epidural by 2 and was only 3 cm my first epidural didn't take so i got a second around 3 and during the second epi i started feeling a ton of pressure (right before my second epi i was only 5 cm) after we finished with the 2nd epi my nurse checked me and i was 10 cm. i dialated from 5 to 10 in 30 mintes:) i started pushing at 3:45 and my daughter was born at 4:02. she came so fast my doc didn't have her gloves on and told me to stop pushing and i told her i wasn't pushing, so she got her gloves on and literally 2 pushes later my daughter was on my chest:) much better experience. good luck with your delivery and congrats on your baby boy:)

I've just had my 2nd child and she was easier than my first. She took a little longer however. Even though my waters broke early in the morning, i had no contractions until the afternoon. But once the contractions were serious, she came out quicker than the first. She was also a pound bigger. I also didn't tear as much on the 2nd either. Also, when the midwives measure your belly, it's not a realy indication of the size of your child. I was told my second child was measuring smaller than what it was supposed to be. But when she came out she was 9lb 1 1/2 oz!!! Each child and labour is different. But normally it should be a bit quicker and easier.

my second was much much quicker. 4 hrs compared to 17. baby 3 was 6 1/2 hrs, but compared to my first born it was still a significant cut in time. Expect #4 will be even faster. (i'm hoping anyway)

I have been wondering the same thing. With my daughter I was at the hospital at 3:30 pm and was barely even dialating and had her at 6:54 pm the same day. And holy cow im currently 10 weeks pregnant if this one comes any quicker Im going to be in trouble. I got my epideral 15 min before I started to push. And I had really back labor.

i'm wondering the same, but i think it really depends on the size of the baby. i watched my best friend go into labor the day before i went into labor with my son. She popped her girl out in 20 minutes and it took me 90 minutes. my son was 2lbs and 2 in bigger than her daughter.

I've had 4 kids and each labor was about the same, but the delivery process was very different. My first in pushed for 2.5 hours and finally got mad and pushed her out. My second when it came time to push, I oushed twice and felt like NOTHING was moving, so my midwife had me switch sides between each push. He shot out like a football and landed on the bed. The midwife was putting her gloves on. She was a stunned as I was. We were gearing up for a long night! I think I only pushed for like 45 mins. My third came out with 2 pushes, but his labor was rough as his heartbeat kept falling and my blood pressure went crazy. My 4th was an easy labor and delivery. Each time I was in labor around 24 hours start to finish, but active labor got faster each time. And the pushing part went lightening fast by the last one. I hope this helps you! Enjoy every minute!

my 1st was 13 hrs from when my waters broke & i had an epidural after about 10hrs of contractions being 2-3min apart im due to have my 2nd in 2wks if i make it to the due date ( been getting niggle pains all day 2day & not feeling very comfy) my obstertrician said that generally ur second bubs labour is a around 1/2 the time of the 1st bub im keeping my fingers crossed this is the case, but hoping bub doesnt want to come to quickly as the hospital is 45min away & im at risk of having a post partem haemarrage again... My first i went in labor at 33w for 4 days and they kept stopping it...i was induced at 39w4d and start to finish was 8.5hours...my second i had no problems and was induced at 39w...2 hours later start to finish there she was. It was very fast and very intense...no time for meds at all...ugh

I have heard and in my own experience that each time is about half the time of the previous one, with the exception of complications. My first labor was 4 hours and my second one was 2 hours. I don't know if I will make it to the hospital with my next one. :-) Both times I did not get an epidural and I didn't tense up. I just used breathing techniques through the contractions. My mother in law is a midwife and a labor and delivery nurse, my friend is a postpartum nurse and I have taken a few birthing classes. Here are some hopefully helpful tips on what MIGHT help make it go quicker...because yes everyone and every delivery is different plus with complications getting in the way. The epidural does slow down labor. If you let your contractions do the work and not fight them, meaning tensing up, then they can perform better and do their job. Just breath through the contractions and try to be relaxed...again I say try. :-) Someone above mentioned being in a vertical position, that does help because of gravity and do a lot of walking while you are in labor, which helps move the baby down and uses gravity to push through the birth canal. It helps to keep yourself distracted during the beginning contractions while you are still at home. I was cleaning out my garage and running to Lowe's to pick up some things just a couple hours before I delivered. lol Anyways, good luck, I know I'm forgetting some but maybe other people will post more and like I said before, these are just in general...every delivery is different.

my FIRST was 13 hours scary cause of course it was the first and i didn't know what I was doing but overall not too difficult, no epidural but tore a lil. SECOND- 3 1/2hrs, easier than the first, no epidural, tore a lil. Third- 2 hrs, super easy,no epidural, no tear. FORTH- 7hrs, worst one of them all, I ended up getting an epidural cause I just couldn't handle it. So long story short every one is different, and you'll never know till it happens. Good Luck

my girlfriend has 2 kids and her first labor was almost 15 hours and her second one she did not even make it to the hospital that was 45 min away she could only make it to the one in town that dont deliver babies and that was less then a 10 min drive from her home. it is different with ever one. i hope my second is short as well i was 9 hours with my first son.

Hi, sorry but my second labour was longer. My son was first at 22 hours and my daughter second was 25 hours. I had epidural for both but it did not completely work for my daughters birth cause of a stuff up they made with it for my son's birth. Both my labours would have gone quicker if they had broken my waters earlier.

oh please dont tell me the second is quicker i was only in labour 5 hrs with my son now im thinking im not going to even make it to hospital this time as the hospital i want to go to is half hour away

For me, the labor was about the same amount of time, about 5 hours for my first and second. I had an epidural the second time so he might have been quicker than his sister, I'll never know lol But what I DO know, the pushing was infinitely quicker. With my 1stborn (daughter), I pushed for 40 minutes and she was born. With my son, the doctor wasn't there and the nurse had me push just to see where we were at and if I should get started without him. After pushing once she yelled for me to stop because he had nearly popped out then and there. lol I pushed for a few minutes and he was born, real easy. :) Hope you have a better experience this time! Go into it feeling confident, nerves and anxiety could make it harder, know what I mean? God Bless! :D

With my 1st I slept til my water broke- then it was hard hard labor for 5.5 hrs til I was completely dialated- never got to push- when dr. arrived at last minute, he declared her breech & I had emergency c-section.
2nd baby- counting from the first contraction that was really uncomfortable til she was born was 6.5 hr- only pushed thru 3 contractions and probably could've been shorter than that, but again... waiting on the dr...
You didn't mention an epidural the first time, but they can make your labor last much longer. Staying vertical as much as possible to let gravity work with your body is the fastest way to labor.

my first daughter was 19 hrs of labor, with pushing for like two hours, my second, who was only 3oz's lighter then my first was only really about 4 hrs of labor and 8 mins of pushing lol

My daughter's was first and her labour was shorter than my son's. However she was smaller than he was. I pushed twice for her to come out and about ten minutes of pushing with him. I was induced with both of them and the actual time in labour was about the same. I am hoping however that this third child will be faster than both of my previous two. This one is another boy and I actually whould like for him to come on his own and not be induced, but I will still be getting an epidural.

My oldest was about 10 hours only because I used the epidural. (I found out later it takes longer when you get the epidural) My middle son was about 4-5 hours long. They induced me for my 3rd and it was only 49 minutes.

hi, im pregnant with my second baby also so i dont no from personal experience, but my two older sisters second + labours all went wuicker then the first, but it just depends really cause we are all different so we will have different experience, so its not a sure thing if labour will be quicker or not... congratulations though and hope everything goes smoothly and well for you and bubs to come xx
