I would personally wait until he is old enough to really understand.  I strongly believe that it doesn't matter biologically who the father is but more who treats the child like that.

Yes my sons father lives in Alaska and we live in Texas. So i know how that is with their father living in another state. But My father lived only a few cities away and he never would come and see us kids. So sometimes even though they live near it is as good as living in another state.

Hay I am in the same boat. I have been with my husband since I was 6 mo pregnant with my daughter who is 9mo old and we have one on the way. We just recently lost contact we my daughters father and we are not sure what’s going on. Up until know we had always maintained contact. I think it’s best to tell them as early as possible. We have a baby book that has stories and information about her biological father and we talk about him all the time. Right now we would like to proceed with a legal adoption for my husband and daughter. It will be fairly easy for us because my husband and I are Caucasian and my daughter is Mexican. There is a noticeable difference although; we still have people that tell him “she looks just like you” hehe.

I have a 4 yr old and doesnt see his father. He has not seen him in 2 yrs and before that it was a yr. He knows he is his father but doesnt call him that. He calls him by his name (he started that on his own). He calls the guy i am with now dad and knows him as his father. Along with my 7 1/2 month old who I am with his father. Giovanni (my 4 yr old) will talk about his father by calling him by his name in stories and such. Like he remembers a few things and he will say "mom do you remember when we did this my marques?" I tell him yes and then he drops it. He is also mixed (i am white and his father is black) and when he started knowing his colors he told me marques is black mom you are white and i am brown. Now he says dad you are white and jaiden (my 7 1/2 month old) is white. So in my case he already knows. But I would says once they are old enough to understand or when or if he asks questions. I would just say when he is more understanding about things. Not sure if that helped at all but that is how mine went.

WOW i def know how you feel. My son eli is 2 years and doesnt see his dad... i lucky if he even calls on his bday. My other son austin is 3 weeks old and i have been with his father since elijah was 6 months old. Elijah thinks of my boyfriend as his father. I have no clue when to tell him that he's not his real father.
