Okay moms, I currently have a 19 month old and I am due in September with my 2nd child. So I am looking for a double stroller. The problem is I can't decide if I should buy a side to side double or a longer front and back double stroller. I don't have any experience with either so if you have one that you love or hate please let me know! They are expensive and I don't want to buy one that is a hunk of junk! Thank you!!!

I would say side to side just for the fact I have used one and never had a problem with it. On the other kind im not sure. Never used it.

i have a graco duo glider. i picked mine up used at a second had store but it was in brand new condition. i am due in march for baby number 2 and i use my double stroller all the time. our grocery store is less than 2 blocks away and i walk and get my groceries it is so much better then driveing and i get my exercise by pushing the stroller. and also any graco car seat will fit on any graco stroller which is a plus so if you want something like that i would go with the graco duo glider, it is a back front thing and i love it.

tandem all the way a newborn shouldnt be in a side by side and your eldest is gonna poke and prod and awaken your new baby plus side by sides are a nightmare in shops
i have a phil and teds sport tandem and a icandy pear tandem both are brilliant

If no one has suggested it yet, try to get a phil and ted pram, yes they are expensive but i had both prams, the side by side, it was always to hard to get through doorways and shopping lanes, and l had the double long stroller, it was good while my youngest was little but when he got to about 6 months it got extremely hard to push. The phil and ted pram has the seat at the front, then underneath that is the other seat its a great system.

I have a Sit N Stand Stroller and it is AMAZING!!!! It's not much longer than a single stroller and has all the options I wanted. It rides smoother than my single stroller and tight turns are never a problem. My kids are now 2 1/2 and 1 and my older one now loves to have the option of sitting (or standing) when he wants to. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! (everyone I know with a side-by-side hates it because they can't get thru doors. http://www.onestepahead.com/product/osa/...

It depends on what kind of things you do. Do you expect it to do a lot of offroading? are you active doing a lot of walking on nature trails or are you mostly in the city and shopping and stuff? We got the Graco Quattro duo or something like that. It's a front back and we've used it a couple of times(my baby is due in december) with my neice. It works wonderfully, although the turning can get a little stiff with 40 someodd pounds of wiggly preschooler in the front. It also flods down the same size as our single Jogger does so it fits great. Good Luck and congrats!

I too have used both types, I agree with meghan, the front/back is harder to maneuver around tight corners, I would have to pick up the back end and turn to make it easier. But it IS easier to go through stores and such. I have a side by side umbrella stroller and I use that one now for my 3 year old and 18 month old. I love it because it is easier to push, has 3 handlebars so I can carry alot of bags hanging off of it (useful for me, I usually walk everywhere I go so when grocery shopping, can buy a lot. Baskets don't hold as much, i found.) Also side by side folds up to a really nice size, fits anywhere. I am currently pregnant and due in December and I'm looking at sit and stands. Because like someone said, side by side doesn't work for infants. I found one Iike a lot on walmart.com. Its a double stroller (front and back) and then you can remove the back seat and it turns into a sit and stand. Love that idea! I have heard a lot of people say its hard to get to baskets, but one said she bought a "mommy hook" I think its called, and can hang most things off of that for easy access...I'm considering that! :D

ok the front/back one fits through things easier but is harder to steer and the side by side glides along like a knife through warm butter, but it doesn't fit through as many doors etc

I love love love my Chicco side-by-side. My babies are 15 months apart and both ride well. For the first several months, I carried the youngest in a sling while I pushed the older one in a single stroller. Then once she was sitting up good, I started using the the side-by-side. (I rarely have problems fitting it through standard sized doors.)

The side by side strollers look a bit bulky, but I've never had a problem getting through door ways or what not with them. Sometimes it's a little bit of a trick, but it usually works out just fine.

I have a set of b/g twins who just turned two June 8th, and I'm due with their little brother July 13th with a planned c-section. When our twins were younger we had a front to back tandem stroller. It worked wonders for them, especially when they were in their infant carriers. The side by side strollers don't work very well for infant carriers.

However, one of the biggest problems we came across with the tandem stroller is the fact, if you did go this route I would recommend putting your older child in front and your younger child in back because when our twins became around 8 months old they started to kick the back of the seat of whoever was in front, and it made it impossible for them to nap in their stroller.

The side by side strollers are nice as well, but typically I haven't seen any that are designed for infant usage. For the tandem stroller we had a Graco Duoglide, I can't remember what our side by side stroller is though.

i worked as a nursery nurse so have alot of experience with double (and even triple) prams...
it depends if you do alot of walking and where to... if you do alot of shopping then i suggest a front to back as its easier to get in and out of shops although they're heavier to push...
if you do alot of trips to the park, nature walks etc then i suggest a side by side as they're easy to push but not very practical for getting in and around shops...
but if your 19month old seems to enjoy walking then i suggest a buggy board, they clip onto the back of a pram and your child can either sit or stand, they're very easy to push and cost around £25-£40 depending on the pram... they're alot more practical as you don't need to buy a new single pram when your toddler is walking everywhere.. my daughter is 2 and i'm due my second in August, i'm getting a buggy board.
hope that helps x

I have the Graco Duoglide and realy like it. My little ones are 21 months and 3 months. It works really well for us. The problem I had with buying a side by side is they looked so wide I was wondering about going through doorways. I've never actually used one, just tried them in the store. I also had a sit stand stroller before. I didn't like those because it's so hard to get to the basket. The jump seat sits right over the basket. Make sure you try them in the stores first and make sure your car seat fits on it if you'll use it that way.
