Double stroller? to buy or not to buy!

So we are expecting again this summer and live in a fairly urban environment. I walk to the grocery store with my daughter all the time and to parks and other daily activities. We use the BOB stroller 3-4 times a week for these outings, otherwise, we both will walk.
With the new baby coming, do I really need a double stroller or can I get by with my regular stroller and slinging the little one, or carseat/stroller the little one and have my daughter walk?
My husband and I are not big fans the look of double strollers either tandem or caboose.

im having the same dilema! lol, what im going to do is carry baby in a sling, and when he/she gets too heavy get a buggy board for my toddler, if you use a sling from birth it wont feel uncomfortable as your body will still be used to bump! xx

We got a sit and stand after our second and it was very convenient without the bulkiness of a full double stroller. I plan to use it again with the first two and number three when they get here.

so you like the phil and teds stroller. I have been looking for reveiws on it and am happy to read yours. I have a 20 month old and am expecting in March and have been debating the double stroller for months.

My son will be just over 2 years old when his little brother is born. I considered just sticking with the single stroller, but I know my son will still want to ride in it. So I am going with a sit 'n stand double stroller, through http://www.onestepahead.com , I did load's of research and this seems to be the best one within a low price range.

How about a sit and stand? They are less bulky and the older one has a little more freedom (even though there is a strap).

Agree with the post about how mobile your daughter is.  I bought a sit & stand double stroller.  My son is 21 months and my daughter 1 month (today)!  I'm planning on using my Baby Bjorn for a few months and then the stroller when I take them to the great arboritum nearby as I know he loves stroller rides even though he is very mobile.  The sit and stand will let him sit or hold on and stand on the back when he needs a little rest.

We debated this when we had our daughter as my stepson was 3 1/2. I wanted one and my fiance didn't. I won the arguement as my mom purchased the stroller and he was really glad we did. There were times when my stepson could walk and then we just used our umbrella stroller for my daughter, but now with another baby due in 2 days and our daughter at 17 months there is no way we could live without it. This is definitely one of the best investments we made.

I am having this same predicament. My oldest will be 2 when the second baby is born at the end of April, and I'm not sure that he is ready to walk (since all he does is run/bolt everywhere) or use a Sit-n-Stand or a skateboard attachment. I've seen a nice one that I like, but not sure if I really want to put out the money, or do as you suggested and sling the newborn and use the single stroller to start. As for the comment from Samantha about the Phil and Ted's, I just saw a list of recalled items on the Babycenter website today, and that one was one of them, so watch out!

My daughter will be about 3 1/2 when our new baby is born and I was debating this same topic in mind. Instead of a double stroller, I thought about getting a Sit & Stand Stroller. They weren't too bulky and seemed like a good option for longer walks, trips to the zoo, etc.

Given her age, I finally decided that I would manage with just our single stroller...but had my daughter been only 2 when the new one is born, I'm pretty sure I would have gone with a sit & stand option.

We bought the skateboard for the back of our mountain buggy and we love it.

I think it depends on your daughter and how mobile she is. I bought a double stroller and haven't used it because my son doesn't want to sit still for very long. He'd rather walk (or run) everywhere. So I just use the single stroller. If he gets really tired I'll hold my daughter and he'll sit for a few seconds and then get right back up. You can always try it w/ a single and get a used double online or on craig's list if you change your mind. I found mine for only $20.

I have 2 girls that are 18 months apart. I never bought a double stroller. I used a sling then when my youngest got to heavy I put her in the single stroller and my oldest walked. Now they both walk so when this little man comes in April I will still only need a single stoller.

I recommend getting a double stroller, when the new baby is in the seat all of a sudden your big baby wants in too.  I wish I would have gotten a good one but used on e-bay or craigslist, verses getting a junky one from target.  Just my advice!

Good Luck,  Shannon

Do you know about the Phil and Ted stroller? it's a three wheeler and looks like a single stroller. The second seat can be added or taken away easily. My toddler and infant are as comfy as can be in it and it fits through all the doorways. I had a single BOB before this one and it's about the same size.
