My son is 21 months and I am due in June. I talk to him about the baby in mommys tummy and read books about babys to him but he is not talking yet so I am not sure how much he is understanding.

My son is 16 months and I"m due in June. So far he's really gentle with babies that he sees. We gave him a bear that we call Baby Bear and we always hold it like a baby and say things like look at the little baby bear....be gentle. Now he carries it around nicely and kisses it. I'm hoping that he'll associate the 'Baby' and gentle. It's really quite cute how nicely he holds Baby Bear. I think at this young of an age they will adjust well because they won't really remember a time without baby-except for at first. Good luck!

HI!
My daughter was 23 months when my second daughter was born. It was hard to know how much she understood but I did a variety of things with her. I did the books and talked with her as well. I also had a close friend who had a new baby a few months before me and so we went to the hospital to see him and their house afterwards and talked about how we were going to have a baby at our house soon too. We also spent time in the infant nursery at church looking at babies and talking about gentle touch.
Honestly, I'm not sure how much of it helped but she did pretty well. I think she was more upset with me at being at the hospital then anything. : ) Now that "Baby E" is three months she is full of love and hugs. It took her two days before she would sit on the bed and "hold" her but once she did she did not want to let her go! :)
