I have a 1 year old and a 1 month old. Looking for advice on strollers, bags, shopping and how you all make it work!

I've been looking at double strollers and tandem strollers but when shopping, where do you put what you want to buy? Some of them don't have a lot of storage beneath. Some of the strollers weigh a TON.

What about side by sides? Anyone like theirs that doesn't cost 500$?

I'm completely at a loss here and not sure what to buy or even think about buying as I don't know how it will work.

Are you grocery shopping or in a place with a cart? stick them in the cart....give the one year old something to help you with or play with while in the cart......I have 18 month old twins and take them shopping regularly, if I go to the mall however I take my double wide stroller...so much easier than the front and back doubles...I got my stroller second hand on Kijiji for $150.....good luck!!

I just bought the Baby Jogger CIty Mini double stroller and I love it!!! I got it on sale online...$399.00. But worth every penny. It's a side by side that's small enough to fit through standard doorways and not bulky at all. I hope this helps a little. This is a lifesaver for me because I love to get out of the house as much I can and before buying the stroller was really stuck to only places that had carts where I could put the carseat and my 2 year old. Storage is still an issue as the compartment underneath is on the smaller size, but I am going to purchase a stroller hook that enables you to hang the bags from the handle.

Bahahaha, Alleah I love it when people stare at me while i'm chasing my two year old. He was so nutso one day in the store that by the time we left everyone in the store knew his full name lol. I try to remember that most people that stare are sympathizing with me because they've been there! And the ones who are judging don't matter anyways. Lots of them don't have children, and so haven't been where we've been.

I put my two and a half year old in the seat at the front of the cart, and wear my newborn in a sling, unless I only need a couple items, and then my newborn goes in the stroller, and my older girl gets to walk. That gets a little trying though, because Anna doesn't always listen as well as I'd like to. There's nothing worse than leaving the stroller with your basket, and running after a hyper two year old while other people stare. :(

the carrier and single is a good idea for now but soon baby will get too big. What i did was push the stroller in front and pull the cart behind. It made for easier steering that way. I love our local grocery store because they have buggies with kid things on the front so my son goes in the firetruck, and my daughter goes int he top of the cart and i pray everything fits. I also used to put the carseat in the main part of the buggy and pull another buggy behind me. i got a lot of strange looks for that one but it worked!

For now i would get an infant carrier and use the stroller you have for your older child. That was the easiest for me when I had my second. My son was a little over 2 when sissy came along. After I broke down and bought a phil and tedd stroller and I am so glad I did! I still use mine at the malls. My kids are now 4 and 2. I have a rule that they take turns walking. They do well with that. The grocery store I have a list with pictures on it for my helpers. I got that tip from another mom on here. Good luck I know that outings are stressful at 1st with 2. Diaper bag use a back pack that is always easy.

I will second the hook idea. We have 2 of them and use them to also bring in groceries from the car in fewer trips.

I would suggest for most outings using a single stroller for the older child and having the infant in a carrier (especially grocery shopping). It can make chasing after the older one a bit easier as well.

Side by sides are annoying to steer even empty and can be frustrating in a crowd or trying to get through doorways.

My 2 are 17.5mths apart. We were advised against a side by side pram/stroller as the weight difference can make steering difficult. I'm in Australia, and some of the shopping centres have a shopping trolley/cart with one capsule and one child seat, so that's the place I always go to. I've also bought a little hook from the hardware store, it connects onto the handle, and anything that doesn't fit underneath I hang on the hook. But we bought a 2nd hand pram, the ones with the seat at the front & back, both at the same height....not the toddler seat close to the ground. We found they had better storage.
