Labor pains? Or strong Braxton Hicks...

Hi so this is my second child, but i never went into labor with my first. So I don't know what it really feels like. I went to the dr yesterday (38 wk check up) and she said I was still at 1.5 cm dilated (since 37 wks). But since the exam, I have been having lots of shooting pains, low. Its not consistent, like every 15 min or anything, but it does hurt and its on and off all day. I heard that the Braxton Hicks can be stronger the second time around. But I never felt those with the first child either. Is this just increased Braxton Hicks or could this be the beginning of labor? I wish I could explain it better... I don't want to get my hopes up, but I do want to know what beginning labor pains feel like... Help!

hi there, I just wanted to say that I have actually just gone through this stage last weekend and was curious if you had found out anything more on the subject. This is my second child aswell and I have had all the labour pains before but not as early as this. I was 36weeks when this started.

Quoting Christina:

Thanks for your input! Unfortunately, I had them for about two days and now they're even further apart. I will ask about the membrane stripping at my appointment (39 wks)Friday. I wish she would just come already!!! lol... I was late with my son too, only 1 wk though. Isn't that the worst? All your pregnancy buddies are having their kids and ppl that were due after you have their kids already and here you are still prego... ugh... I really hope she comes within the next week or so. I really want to be home for Christmas!! =)

Yeah, I HATED being 2 weeks late!  It's possible that your dr may not want to strip your membranes unless he feels your ready to go into labor, or have gone past his acceptable date to induce.

It could be Braxton Hicks, however some women also feel actual labor pains just like you explained for several days (or even a few weeks) before they get regular. I had them for about 1-2 days before I actually went into labor (2 weeks late). The dr also striped my membranes and with in a few hours the labor pains got regular and about 10 min apart.

I say give it a few days and see how you feel, usually if it is labor pains you will slowly start to have them a little closer together.
