I would like to know this as well, I plan on co sleeping with our son till he sleeps through the night but am worried about nap times (probably in their room or out in the living room with us. They will be 22 months apart.

oh yes!!! i have an 18 month old son and a 5 wk old daughter. my son has recently found that screaming at the top of his lungs is his new favorite thing. just when i get the baby to sleep he wakes her up. its very frustrating. we live in a small apartment and sometimes i get so stressed out, i just have to put him in his room and shut the door till i can get her into a deep sleep. hes fine, he cries at first but he has toys and stuff to play with. sorry still trying to figure things out myself. good luck :)

I'm worried about it too. Our kids rooms are right next to each other but we made sure we put them on opposite walls. So they are as far apart as possible. We also put a child lock on the outside of the baby's room. That way we can lock our son out of the baby's room when she is napping. I guess plan ahead but be prepared to adapt as you go.

I too am worried about this since they will be sharing a room, although I do plan on Nursing new baby so he will probably co sleep for a while. They will be 22 months apart.

I worry about this all the time to because our room is accross the hall from my daughters and i she wakes me up without a baby monitor and not even crying, i worry that soon i will have to babys up in the middle of the night instead of just one, my two will be 26 months apart and my daughter sleeps throught the night now, i just hope she stays sleeping once we bring the baby home, we do plan on having the new baby in a bassinet next to the bed because i plan on BF so it should only take a few seconds to get the baby, my hope is that will help

I had my girls 17 months apart. In all honesty, it was exactly as hard as you are anticipating. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND keeping them separate as long as possible. Since they shared a room, the best was to keep the new baby in my room (in a pack n play / playpen) for the first several weeks, and then into the den. Even now (they are 12 mos and 25 mos), I sometimes keep them separate for daytime naps. Thankfully, when the newest turned 5 months old we decided to put them both to sleep (in their shared room) at 7:30 p.m. Sometimes they go without a peep, and most times they take about 15 minutes to both fall asleep. Good luck!

I'm more worried about my toddler waking up the new baby. My son has a difficult time going to bed sometimes and he'll go kicking and screaming the whole way, nothing has worked to stop this so far its just some nights he's in a mood and wont go to bed, sometimes hes a total sweetie about it. He also has this wonderful habit of waking up every night around 3am to play, I've tried taking toys out of his room but then he'll just cry and want to get up so I let him have his 3am alone time to play himself back to sleep (only takes about a half-hour) and it works out fine. He sleeps like the dead so long as no one enters his room (my hunni and I refer to it as the Aiden bubble) so I don't think the new baby will wake him up. For the newborn though I can see this nightime routine being quite an issue, my hunni is worried as well and is currently in a battle of wills with my son over bedtime. He wants the issue resolved before the baby is born but I really don't see it working that way. We plan to keep the new baby in our room until we transfer into a three bedroom (it will be shortly after the baby's born) but the walls in our home are paperthin to the point I can hear my son snore from our bedroom. I think if possible I might work the baby's schedule to make it work like put the baby to bed before Aiden so that when it's time for Aiden to go to sleep the baby will need to be fed and then by the time the baby needs to go back to sleep Aiden will already be settled.

I was worried about it, too, but it hasn't been a problem. My son was 23 months old when my daughter was born. We just have 2 bedrooms, so for the first couple months, my daughter slept in a playpen in our room, but then we moved her to the crib in her brother's room. He never flinches when she wakes up to eat. The first night, he woke up a little, but I just told him I was feeding baby, and he went right back to sleep. And on the opposite hand, he doesn't wake her up either; he always wakes up first in the morning and calls for me, and my daughter just sleeps right through.
