well if your in you 1st trimester, your out, its not suppose to be safe, and thats basically because they don't know if it can hurt the fetus or not.
But, as a nurse being 5 months preg, it got it, who knows what i'll run into at work. But if I wasn't in the profession I would have never got it.
Washing your hands and keeping purel on hand will prevent it. Just basically stay away of ppl who are sick.

I was 34 weeks pregnant when I received the Swine Flu Vaccine. I was also very hesitant about getting it, my OBS/GYN said its not only protecting me, but protecting my unborn baby, the baby only receives a very small amount of the vaccine. As Anna said above it is more dangerous to yourself & your baby to actuallly get the Swine Flu than it is to get the vaccine. By not getting the vaccine, the disease is spreading around more & more & you may be putting others at risk if you catch the flu. I had the injection 3 weeks ago & I am fine, apart from a sore arm I had for a couple of days.

I have received both the seasonal and H1N1 shots. I was fine with the seasonal one and just had my H1N1 shot today I am 36 weeks pregnant. I work in a pharmacy and have been around quite a few people with the swine flu. I was delighted when my doctor told me they had it available and I never hesitated once to get it. The treatment for swine flu is far more harmful to a pregnant woman and her child then the vaccine itself. I for one had a sigh of relief once I was given the vaccine cause I know it will protect me and my baby!
And for those of you with doctors that dont know much about the vaccine.... I suggest finding a new doctor because there is a ton of information and studies have been conducted. It is made the same way as the seasonal flu shot and as with any vaccine there is a possibility of side effects but the side effects are nothing compared to what these viruses can do to you and your child.
And as far as the comment about the CDC killing off the stupid people 1st for getting the H1N1 shot... you are stupid for not getting it and can end up with serious complications if you end up getting the swine flu. I for one am not willing to risk my life or my unborn daughters life by not getting the vaccine!

I am 24 weeks pregnant and proudly got my H1N1 and seasonal flu shots and feel completely fine. I too was skeptical about the vaccine until a nurse I use to work with told me that had the swine flu virus would have been included in the seasonal flu vaccine if it wouldn't have had such a late break out in the spring. It is the same make up as the seasonal flu vaccine, just a different strain of flu. I had no side effects from either shot and I know that I did the right thing by protecting myself, my unborn child, and the toddler I have at home who has not had a chance to get her vaccine yet. The risk of a high fever is much riskier than the side effects of the vaccine during pregnancy. I agree with the post above. Have you all who are afraid of the mercury, ate tuna fish while you are pregnant? That probably has the same amount of mercury as the vaccine if not more. My OB and my daughters pediatrician both said that they would get the vaccine themselves so I decided it was safe enough for me!

Well I was very skeptical about it, not really trusting it, however talking to my doctor about it she told me that it has been tested, it would protect me and the baby, and that the risks of not getting it out weigh the risks of getting it. Then talking it over with my parents and my fiance I thought it would be better to get it.

Quoting Melaina :
Ask yourself: if you choose not to vaccinate, and you or your child die, will you still feel like you did the right thing?
I'm sure that many pregnant women are asking themselves that question! Even if they decide not to get the vaccine, I'm sure this question is foremost in their minds and weighs on them heavily. For myself, I do not want to get this shot. The 1976 flu shot has scared me. I know, the technology is better today, but in my mind the testing still has not been done, especially on pregnant women and children. And this question is on my mind everyday. To insinuate that it isn't is insulting. I am not trying to make a statement on getting or not getting the shot, as that is every woman's choice and I'm sure every woman thinks long and hard about it. I would just like to point out that of course women are thinking of this issue.

People are always scared of new vaccinations. Think of all the vaccinations our children get within their first 2 years of life. At one point, they were all new. Does that make them any less necessary or potentially life saving? NO! I am currently 29 weeks 2 days pregnant and I also have a 2.5 yr old. My son is getting his H1N1 today and I am getting mine next week. I also recieved the regular flu shot for the first time ever this year. The swine flu is not like the regular flu. It should not be considered lightly. MANY people have died from this. A 13 yr old boy died a couple weeks ago not to far from where I live. I am taking any precaution I can to prevent that from happening to my family.

I got my H1N1 yesterday. After my OB highly recommended it, and said they have had 3 'healthy' pregnant women die of swine flu in my area alone, I quickly changed my mind about the whole thing. Plus when I asked if she has had one, she said she has along with all three of her children and husband. I totally trust her with my unborn child, so why wouldn't I trust her on this. Think about this. Most people who experience the swine flu have temps of 103 or higher for multiple days, not good on a fetus cooking on the inside. Can cause many problems and death. Just food for thought. But I agree ladies, do more research than one or two sights that are 'opinion' based.

I planning to get it as soon as it's available to me. The H1N1 vaccine is made the same way as the seasonal flu vaccine, which pregnant women have been getting for years.

Both of my doctors and a good friend who is a microbiologist researching infectious diseases highly recommend it, and both my toddler and I will absolutely get it! Of course, we are also asthmatic and the risk of the flu for us is significantly higher than it is for healthy people. I agree with what Shannon said; it seems people are basing their fears of this vaccine on almost nothing. And I'm appalled that there are OB's out there who are telling their patients not to get it! They should be better informed. Ask yourself: if you choose not to vaccinate, and you or your child die, will you still feel like you did the right thing?

got the h1n1 yesterday, feeling good so far upper arm just sore, i was nervious but it takes you to go and talk through your fears and worries with the professional staff giving the vacine, i think the more you read and listen to other peoples views you will end up more destressed and no wiser. good luck jody

I am 33 weeks pregnant and got the H1N1 shot a little over a week ago. I have had no side effects. The regular flu shot actually made my arm sore the next day but the H1N1 did not. My son, who is 2.5, and my husband have also got their vaccines (thru the nose). For me, I listened to my doctor, who highly recommended that I, and my family, get it. He already has about 5 pregnant patients right now with the swine flu, one who has had to go to the hospital. For me, I would much rather be safe than sorry. I am very happy with my decision. Good luck!

I am six weeks pregnant, got it last week, and am thrilled. I've had no side effects. I am dismayed that there are so many people here who are afraid of it for no reason they can pinpoint - "I just don't trust it yet" doesn't seem like a very good reason to me - unless you usually just listen to people like Glen Beck, and if you do, nothing I can say would change you mind. Has anyone heard about negative side-effects surfacing because of this vaccine? I would want hard science proving there is a risk to pregnant women who get the shot greater than the risk of swine flu. Consider that (from CDC website):
One of the more well-studied adverse effects of influenza is its associated hyperthermia. Studies have shown that maternal hyperthermia during the first trimester doubles the risk of neural tube defects and may be associated with other birth defects and adverse outcomes.
Which means: fever hurts baby!!
I also have a one-year-old, and since she hasn't been able to get the shot yet, I feel like at least I won't pass the flu to her. People are going to die unnecessarily because they refuse this shot. Jody, you should do your own research and talk to your own docs, consider the sources, and make an informed decision. At least then you won't be using an excuse like "I just don't trust it." Good luck whatever you decide. =)

i got both the seasonal and the h1n1 shot and am perfectly fine along with my unborn baby, as for the mercury levels, my seasonal flu was mercury free and the levels in the swine flu vaccine are less then if you eat a piece of fish which is ok while preg if its the right kind so your not at any higher risk. i think it is the media blowing the whole thing out of proportion and feeding on peoples already existing fears, it is not a live vaccine so there is minimal risk for things.

I didn't even get a chance to get he vaccine, we hadn't gotten the shipment in our area yet, and I got the N1H1 flu. My O.B. put right onto Tamaflu for 5 days and other than feeling like I had the flu, i am fine. I started feeling better around the 4th day of the tamaflu. My O.B. said that it is not as big of a deal as it seems as long as you take proper precasutions and catch it AS SOON AS you feel ANY symptoms. Since I have had it and I am fine and the baby is fine, I am figuring that if you feel you don't need the vaccine or you are iffy on it at all, don't do it.

I understand. My OB really wants me to get it especially since she recently almost lost a patient who had the regular flu. If she pushes hard enough, I will probably give in. I don't want to risk losing my baby's or my life. Let us know how it goes!

i'm due to have the vacine on monday afternoon, still don't know what to do. i have been on the internet all week and reading peoples comments and on specalised web sites still as confused. the only thing i'm scared off is losing my baby if i don't get it, it is meant to be more serious in 2nd and 3rd stage of preg which is where i am at present. i have never had the seasonal flu jab ever and soo scared of this one.

I have gotten the regular flu shot every time I've been pregnant, and am currently 28 weeks prego with number 3. I do not think I will be getting the H1N1 shot though. My OB would like for me to get it when it becomes available, but I don't think I will. She says the risks of me not getting the shot and then getting the swine flu are greater than me getting the shot itself. There is an 8-10% mortality rate in pregnant women who get the swine flu. While that is scarey, I don't still don't think I will get it.

Bridget, you're lucky. My OBGYN gave me an entire lecture about getting the swine flu vaccine, and I told her flat out NO. No offense, but any amount of mercury is poisonous, and for an unborn child, that could be extremely dangerous to expose them to, especially since the Dr.s are always telling you don't take drugs b/c it could affect the baby, and the vaccine is a drug.

I will not be getting the swine flu vaccine. I will get the regular flu shot but there is just to much that isn't known about it. I'd be worried that it would hurt me or even worse, my baby. They haven't tested it enough and I've heard about a lot of things that are in it that can't be good.

I am not going to get a swine flue shot, when i was at the dr last wk for my 23wk visit the dr said that he didnt that I should get one right now, because the vacine might not be 100% affective, and being high risk the best thing is to just waite it out and see if the swine flue ends

I am 14 weeks pregnant and I have never gotten the flu shot even though everyone was panicing when the flu was real bad does anyone remember that?? People were dying from it to and everyone was wanting the flu shot so they wouldnt get it... Well Im not bragging just telling the trueth I have never gotten that shot and I have never had the flu its all depending up on how you feel about the shot... So why would I go get the swine flu shot and take a chance on dying anyway from them not knowing to much about the shot??? Im not going to kill myself or my baby over a stupid shot. If I get the swine flu Ill just take it as the Lord is calling me home... Me not getting sick hardly at all and when I do no more than a sore thoart Im not worried about it. I think people should really take into concideration that Dr.'s are even scared of the shot... why would everyone else get it?? They just want the stupid ones to go first... to see what it does to them before they get it.... Well they can wait all they want but Im not getting it!!!

I'm 14 weeks along, and won't be getting the regular flu shot or the swine flu shot. I don't want to expose my developing little baby to mercury and preservatives in a grossly under-tested vaccine.
I talked to my OB today and he said that there is no mercury what so ever in the swine flu shot. Also my OB seemed to know a lot about the swine flu shot. Because until today I was worried about getting the swine flu shot. He said that what the swine flu shot is made of has been tested on humans for a long while just not put together and tested as long. I'm still bouncing off and on about the idea about getting the swine flu shot but because when I'm pregnant I don't ever get the flu shot but I do end up getting the flu which sucks. In the end it's how the person feels about the swine flu shot. I'm more worried about my kids is because they are two young for the medicine to help swine flu if they get it.

I am very scared of it because it has no long term testing. I have done a lot of research & here's what I know. It is made basically from the same set-up as the regular seasonal flu shot, just modified for the swine flu. It was only clinically tested on humans for 3 weeks before being released. To the best of my research knowledge, it has not been tested on pregnant women & it's only assumed safe because the regular flu shot is safe. Personally, I have not wanted to be vaccinated because of the lack of clinical studies & fear of hurting my little baby. I talked extensively to my OB about my feelings yesterday & he told me that even he & his family aren't getting vaccinated because of the lack of info. Doctors do not even have any info on this vaccination & that is SCARY to me. Just my thoughts though.
